O.K., so not everyone can head to the Park and do aerial tricks
like this Tremblant Ecole Sur Neige Instructor shown above, but...

Every single recreational skier can aspire to this technique
illustrated below. With practice, there is not one single thing
that even YOU can’t do that is either similar in act or style
or basic posture, and it will all make that same YOU a better skier...

Practically every single season we write and write, then write some more
about the transferable elements of Racing technique and style that can
benefit every single recreational skier who clicks into a set of bindings
and points themselves downhill.

From the low, centred, compact stance, to the forward lean and
dedicated weight transfer to the outside turning ski, there are
many, many completely copiable things any recreational skier
can take from the form of this junior racer above that will help
make fundamental improvement. Race kidz inspire us to be better
ourselves, but more on that later...

As an off-handed, approximate, rough, anecdotal, and very un-scientific guess...
we would estimate that somewhere around 30% of the total attendance
are race training kidz and teams from the near and far reaches of the
Eastern Canadian region. Race coaches and clubs preparing for the
upcoming competition season need to rely on early season conditions
they can depend on to build skills and abilities on the race course.
Tremblant delivers, every single season, however, some seasons
are better than others just because Mother Nature blesses us with
better initial skiing weather, and that just happens to be right now.

Weather Notes:

The hourly forecast has changed quite a bit from the
version available last night and it now basically says
warmer, and earlier, so it’s going to be another spring-like
day of going from a sub-zero C overnight to a sunny +6C.

Wow... Nice ’n easy!

For the Apres Ski hourly mixed precip., we would apply our
standard expectation that when base levels are at zero C
the typically cooler by -4C over Mountain elevations has
a very good chance of making this an all-snow event over
the trail network. In a best case scenario, it might end up
a wee bit cooler by the hour if Mother Nature decided to
help out. This is exactly the late Fall profile where 1 degree
either way can make a difference.

Conditions Notes:

From first tracks to just around noon, we think the groomed
surfaces are going to remain as winter-like as they have been
so far.

Below is a Versant Nord/North Side, Trail # 72, P’tit Bonheur,
trail snow surface sample. Even though the Summit temp at
this moment was Zero C/32 F, the trail surfaces here and
almost everywhere else, where this winter-like all day long.

What you are looking at above is a very dry, fine/small particle size
that has what we refer to as great “shear properties” that you can
see above as the parallel lines in the snow as the left ski is moved
outward, laterally. Each one of those shear lines is allowing wafer-thin
thicknesses of snow to part over one another with almost zero
friction, so the side-sliding action of the skis over these surfaces
is almost effortless.

While the above sample is from Nord/North P’tit Bonheur, you
can see the very same surface characteristics in the foreground
trail snow surfaces on this Sud/South Nansen sample below.

Due to the chill in the hill, we expect these qualities to remain
fully in place for today.

The one difference between P’tit Bonheur and Nansen was
that there was sufficient traffic on P’tit to generate shallow
moguls, while Nansen Haut/Upper had none, all day. For
that reason we gave Nansen our unofficial Smooth Cruising
Award du jour yesterday. That could be a repeat today.

At this stage of any new season, the hope for yesterdays
moguls to become todays universal smoothness is a direct
function of last nights grooming shift, as it will be again for
tomorrows forecast.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
