T360 Late Night Apes Ski Edit At 11:57 P.M.
On a day many would discard because of a few drops
of forecasted rainy, there was a remarkable level of very
fine, very spring-like, high performance, respectively
within all groomed skill ratings.

The temps were just on the tipping point of
warm enough to thaw the snow out of the
trees on the Sud/South while the Nord/North
trees kept very noticeably more.

They make movies about “Singin’ In The Rain”,
today we were doing the skiers equivalent, except
that it did not rain all day. What we wrote about
passing bands of activity was spot-on, so we were
dry for a large portion of our day.

95/102(*) Open Trails On Sud/South, Nord/North And Soleil Sectors At #Tremblant .
Please Note: Due to weather factors sited, Edge Sector closed for today.
A major shift in the cosmetic appearance as warm ’n possibly wet
will probably take out the snow in the trees, but technically, the
skiing will be very fine as an early hint of “Spring-like” soft conditions.

We have been most fortunate to have a relatively easy
and durable span of pure winter conditions with no
significant thaw for quite a while. It is a common
feature of mid-season conditions into the new year
and not only has it been great skiing on a day-by-day
basis, but it’s one of the most reliable factors for
extended quality. As we see increased periodic warmth
heading towards March the stability of the base you see
below is an excellent foundation.

Weather Notes:
We just hope that “Light” means really light, and maybe
very intermittent with quickly passing bands of activity.
So far not a spec of anything from the sky... yet.
As far as a long range perspective, it may be fair to say
we have a little February Thaw happening briefly, but
we think the longer term outlook for a return to cooler
temps is going to mean good possibilities for a winter
refresher period that should be a very positive sign for
the extended retention of conditions during the Spring
Break weeks. A quick glance at the historic daily average
high temp for today shows roughly -.5 C/30 F, which
is roughly a 30 year average, so the inevitable seasonal
evolution is progressing and we can expect to see oscillations
above and below Zero C becoming more common.
Conditions Notes:
Variable rates and degrees of Spring-Like softness increasing
as the day matures due to rising temp’s above Zero C, plus
the potential effects of any wet forms of precipitation. We want
to remind readers that at low single digit “+” C values, whatever
is forecast for the Sud/South base levels can be vastly different
over inherently cooler Mountain elevations, so we could, maybe,
possibly, have some chance of snowfall.
We would also point out that with the light icons in the hourly
forecast, that this typically means whatever active weather is
doing, it is in small bands of quickly passing zones propelled
by the vigorous wind forecasted and they tend to follow valley
contours. In many cases like this it can mean that the Mountain
itself remains largely dry as either lower/other base levels get
the bulk of the precipitation.
As temp’s rise the softness tends to dramatically increase
forgiveness as the lateral grip for speed and directional
control have greater effectiveness with the improvement
in the retained force of edge-sets. Basically, it’s better traction.
We forecast this general overview to be applicable to all categories
of trail ratings over both Groomed and Sous Bois, however we think
the Groomed will have the highest consistency of hazard free easy
reliability. There is still a very effective, well chilled and established
groomed base core that will be a resilient, very stable platform for
many, many weeks without any appreciable loss.
Bottom line is that you need to be ready for anything in atmospheric
potential, so a Descente Poncho may or may not be necessary, however
the skiing itself should do nothing but get easier all day.
