Above:
The marquis zone of Versant Nord/North Side Tremblant
is undoubtedly the Expo sector you can see here from the
parking area at the bottom of the slopes. This is not only
one of the most challenging Expert steep sectors, but for
those many local and regional Expo fans, over decades
it has become a prime example of the technological
advancements in both snowmaking and grooming that
also make it one of the most refined Expert trails with
huge increases in early, sustained, and durable conditions
that now far eclipse the later decades of the 20th century
when it was first opened and developed.

If you look closely at the upper half you will see a winch
groomed centre track lightly mogul’d and on the right
side of that you can see a small outward projection
about halfway down, we want to focus on that little
section because arguably it may be the best single
example of why this trail may in some seasons have
virtually double the open days now, compared to back
in the 1970’s when it was first really popular.

That little right side sector is not so little when you
are riding up the Expo Quad. As a matter of fact, it
is a very steep cliff ridge that is not only steep, but
has had boulders the size of refrigerators or small
cars. Before the advent of current snowmaking, this
zone was extremely difficult to retain total coverage
on, and frequently the trail opening was delayed,
or the closing was early, just because this section
was so difficult to keep cover on.

Now, the big bump permanent snowmaking capability
here means that crews can generate many, many 10 to
15 metre wide snowmaking bumps that are 7 or 8 metres
tall covering the entire rocky upper descent sector and
burying all the unevenness , wait a couple of days for the
bumps to dry out, then with steel cable supported winch
grooming, mill the whole trail flat and opening on day-one
to qualify standards we may have never seen in an entire
season, or seasons, in the good old days.

So, when you scale this concept up to that scope of
the entire Mountain, you’ll begin to see why we’re so
enthusiastic about the fabulously optimized conditions
at Tremblant that just seem to only get better.

It truly is extraordinary, and the really good part is that
it is applied to virtually all Green, Blue and Black skill levels
of the basic groomed terrain here, right from the seasons
very first opening days.

Weather Notes:

This and any other cool cycle are critically important
for the refrigerant reserve in the core mass of the
Mountain when the snowfall is on the shallow side.

Every degree of retained frost support is necessary
for the durability of the base through to spring when
the real thermal intensity gets dialled up. In that regard
look at the overnight low’s in the 14 day long range
models below. Fortunately those crispy low’s are when
we’re all asleep, so Mother Nature gets to reset while
we rest.

-------------- 2.15.24 Seasonal Weather Factors Update: -----------------

You’ve observed it’s a so-far, low snow year... We’re not alone...

The additional and potentially good news is that
we are only half-way through February, so with
just over 2 months left in the Official season,
there are hopefully going to be many more
opportunities for Mother Nature to generate
more natural snow. We have observed more
than one season of abundant late season snow,
so maybe, possibly, could be, we may see a
strong finish? Check out the forecast snowfall
icons in the 14 day long range models above...

A slightly phuzzy action shot, with pin-sharp performance accuracy.

It’s been like this for days and days and weeks and weeks...

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

More refinement as consecutive days of grooming
expand the scope and the consistency of loose,
high performance, blended surfaces that have
enhanced daily durability because of low mid/work
week attendance.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Select excellence and overall genuine Expert challenge
but with a case-by-case caveat for natural hazards that
warrant very slow, deliberate and cautious exploration.
This is particularly applicable in the Un-Groomed mogul
zones attached to Sous Bois sectors as some hazards are
not visible from above.

The Ski Patrol have hand posted signage in these areas
and all those advisory notices should be taken with
serious respect.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
