Today Is Where The Ski Season Gets A Serious Elevation...

The big initial season events are over and today is the
day where the public gets an overnight benefit from the
thousands of hours of trail development. All the work
it takes to build the event courses now become part
of the regular seasons expanding trail inventory.

On a practical basis, and for this year specifically, there
is one more big sector stage we think will open, maybe
within the next 24 hours and that could be the Sud/South
Flying Mile peak and some of the trails descending.
Trail # 28, Flying Mile has had a TON of work in progress
for several weeks due to its F.I.S. Race Course status,
and even though that event had to be cancelled because
of the unusually hot weather preceding, the base there
has been well established now and the grooming icons on
the Official list indicate this zone to be very close to opening.

Over on Versant Soleil, the snowmaking icons have now
been extended to Algonquin and Toboggan as the main
focus of effort and there is some possibility in our opinion,
weather depending, that we might see that sector opening
by this coming weekend, maybe. If that’s not possible, we
think it’s for sure part of the Christmas package that is now
less than 10 days away.

There are going to be a lot of super-happy Versant Nord/North
Side Fans who have observed the snowmaking icons on Trails
# 93, and 55, Superieur and Casey-Jay Anderson respectively.
And... if you take a peek at the lower right Expo Quad snap shot
in yesterdays weather conditions observations, you’ll see
massive banks of snowmaking at the bottom of Trail #82, Expo,
so we think there could also be a strategic push there to
have Expo for Christmas as well. That may be a long shot, but
if we see snowmaking icons on Expo within the next 72 hours
or so, we think the chances go way up.

Weather Notes:

Fine for today, but a lot of wild cards moving towards tomorrow.

--------- Environment Canada Freezing Drizzle Advisory: ------------

Please Note: We post all weather notices, however
in many cases, including this one, we think its
implications are more for regional commuting
transits, not so much for ski conditions.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

There will be some “Best Of” excellence in the
groomed array today where trails were event
courses yesterday so Sud/South Beauvallon,
Alpine, Biere-En-Bas, and Johannsen could
see extraordinarily fine conditions.

Race and/or Event courses get built to some of the
highest standards of quality possible because they
need to support immaculate surfaces durably.

The events are over, the barriers are down and
you get all of that today.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Well travelled and potentially choppy with
mixed natural early season hazards that
require Expert skills and experience.

Absolute speed control is essential.

Line-of-sight navigational protocols where
instantaneous stopping, pivoting, hopping,
jumping and all other manner of immediate
course corrections may be required.

Some hazards are not visible from above
so slow speeds are the only safe option.

Generally:

Misty cloud particles may affect goggle vision today due to
the current low ceiling cloud over the Mountain. It may be
a day for yellow lens safety glasses that can be used to
avert eye blast at descent speeds while restoring definition
and contrast.

Apres Ski Insert: We thought there may have been an after hours
disassembly operation but evidently that is not the case so far.
The amount and weight of steel in this framing makes its
removal a huge project so free access in this zone may take
a few days for the labour and heavy equipment.
