Weather Notes:

It’s January, there’s another little “Cold Snap” ... Sounds pretty normal
to us. Time to layer up for outdoors and take lots of indoor breaks.
As usual, it’s the wind component that makes “Snap”, “Snappy” with
net wind chill values to -21 C for a chilly start in the lead pic. above.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Considering all the new fresh snowfall with a primarily
Westward wind over the last 4 days, we were impressed
by the uniformity of groomed quality over the entire footprint
of the whole Mountain. Traction action on all 4 sides was
very fine and there was very little in the way of icy or slick
bits. It is clear there’s been a lot of new snow though as
some zones exhibited a slight washboard effect where traffic
concentrations occur in narrowing run-outs, or across shallower
plateaus.

There are still some groomed trails that are not quite at full
widths, so it is important to use caution with respect to speed
and situational awareness by 360 degree scanning. There are
still high degrees of mixed skill-sharing and you need to watch
out for some of the Holiday speedsters that are zipping through
the Beginner and Intermediate zones. If you are an Expert mentoring
Beginners/Intermediates, you need to include “situational awareness”
by scanning as a fundamental instructional component.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Getting better every day with the early season caveats about
slow speeds and hazard avoidance, but for sure, there are
some very fine accumulations zones where the snow is piling
up in significant depths. For only one example, riding up the
Duncan Quad between the mid-point plateau at Vanier and
over the top of the Devils River entrance, there are very clear
drift lines we would estimate at over 50/60 cm’s where the
swirling wind over the Summit is laying the snow in very quickly.
This very active snow accumulation is happening all over the
Mountain to variable degrees, but especially on upper Nord/North
and Edge sectors.

Due to the cool ambient air temps the new snow is falling at,
it is a very light, dry, and fine crystalline sugar-granule type
of eastern powder that is easy to ski through but does not
exhibit a lot of floatation support, so where it’s deeper, you
sink right through it and there is a moderate level of natural
braking effect where thickness has built up.

For Tremblant Sous Bois/Hors Piste Fans, you know things
are developing nicely when Versant Nord/North Side C.B.C.
opens.

Archival Copy Of Official Daily Message:

Bonjour Tremblant! There is a light blanket of fresh snow
covering our mountain this morning, 41 cm fell in the last
7 days and we have over 584 acres of available terrain!
It is going to be a great day on the slopes so take an extra
day off and come enjoy skiing at its best! Please also note
that due to the ongoing snow making, snow conditions are
variable and visibility is affected in some areas of the mountain.
Therefore, exercise extra caution on the slopes.

Have a great day, and we look forward to seeing you at the summit.
