--------- T360 Apres Ski Edit At 10:43 P.M. --------------------

Sunny? not even close...

There were occasional hints of blue sky but if you were not looking
for them you would not have noticed them because you really had
to stop and look up to see how thin the cloud cover was.

We tried numerous shots and settings in order to capture it but
that turned out to be mostly futile due to cloud-fuzzed very
low contrast. This one pic at last run on P’tit Bonheur was as
close as we could come. If you look at the sky here, you’ll notice
a blue tinge at the top of the frame and that was blue sky a few
hundred metres above the Mountain. It was doing it’s best to poke
through, but it never happened beyond this spooky blue etherial
beauty. With the pink overtones of a winter sunset just hinting across
the middle of the frame, it was nothing short of spectacular in reality.

Being on P’tit at his moment was surreal, the artwork
of Mother Nature at Tremblant can take your breath away.
No camera known on Earth can capture it completely,
you simply need to be here to experience moments like
this that happen just about every day in some unique way.

Otherwise, we were wrong about the attendance today,
and consequently slightly wrong on the conditions, as
there was eventual traffic wear. We thought it would be
quiet, but there was a good and enthusiastic crowd out,
a lot more than we expected. Even then, about 80% of
the conditions were just as we forecasted. When it came
to lift lines, it never amounted to more than a couple of
minutes at the Gondola, less than a minute everywhere else,
but the sizeable group out were still noticeable in some
constricted trail traffic zones so you had to be careful
scanning for fast moving objects...

Skiing is still great traction and fantastic fun! More in the morning...

When It’s Cool Like This...

The Very Best Way To Get On Top Of The Situation...

Thank goodness for the Gondola...

With cool temps, the Gondola can make laps possible
in relative comfort. It also dramatically illustrates what
wind chill actually does because the contrast in comfort
is so dramatic in the shelter of an enclosed space.

Serious Skiing For Serious Skiers.

This is an important annual timestamp because it marks
the beginning of the Mid-Season, after the big Christmas
New Year Holidays that are always busy. What Tremblant
Guests get now is really big open space with really small
relative attendance so the net result is that if you are a
serious skiing fan, you’ll easily be able to wrack up
100,000 vertical feet every 3 days or so. That’s some
serious skiing and it’s a main reason we encourage
serious skiers to consider booking ski holidays over the
next 5 weeks or so of what is referred to as “Low Season”
for accommodation rates that make for very high value.

Compared to recent days, it’s going to seem like a private
club today. There will be many runs you’ll make today that
unless you’re skiing with a companion, you will be the only
person in sight, and with an array of wide open choice that
will have a smile on your face from first tracks to last run.

Today is the day you’re going to run out of muscle way, way
before you run out of Tremblant.

Choices, Choices, So Many Choices...

You’ll see this scene all day, there just won’t be
as many people in it...

Weather Notes:

Cool to start, but warming to almost easy by noon.

If the sun really comes out, in quiet, safe, trail-side breaks
you’ll be able to feel solar energy within a minute if you’re
in a wind sheltered zone.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

The whole Mountain is covered with primo “Pure Winter”, “Cryogenic”,
cold formed snowfall. These are extremely important distinctions
because each of those references has specific advantage to the
extraordinary performance that will be offered today.

“Pure Winter” refers to many, many sequential days without any
thermal influence from above Zero C temps by either air or solar.
One of Pure Winter’s biggest benefits is the relative lack of icy
bits because its just been so long ago that there was any cause
of thaw that could create them. That combined with many, many
overnight grooming cycles means that there is a high degree of
ice free, uniform consistency across the entire range of open terrain.

“Cryogenic” snowfall is a unique surface medium because it is so
dry due to a complete lack of internal humidity that it has zero
adhesive bonding in the top surface layers and relies only on the
mechanical pressure of a 10,000 Lbs groomer passing over it to
achieve ideal packing density. This total absence of adhesive
humidity gives it a very distinct set of glide and grip characteristics.
Basically, the snow is of a very fine, as in small, almost like table
sugar granular composition.

A common way to think of it is that it makes very bad snowballs
becasue when you try to hand pack it, it just falls apart and won’t
stay together when thrown. The sensations of skiing this super-dry
snow underfoot are an absolutely wonderful feel of typically almost
no friction, as well as a floating sensation due to the loft that never
completely comes out of the very top layers and provides a cushion
effect even if the base is firmly compacted.

Typically, it is rocket fast. Typically, it is extremely forgiving as
the cushion effect also means it easily absorbs little mistakes
with out harsh feedback, so that makes it wonderful for learning
and skills building.

What we say is the best snow is like Champagne, for best results
serve well chilled. You’ll get all of that today at Tremblant.

In The Groomed:

Absolutely wonderful and excellent in all the freshly groomed.

The freshly groomed should have complete all-day smoothness
and mogul resistant quality. We think is going to be an excellent
day for aspiring Beginners and Intermediates to practice and move
up in steepness challenge due to the high forgiveness levels.

If there are any trails that are what we’d call recently groomed
that is to say not last night, but within the past day or so, those
trails may exhibit more it the way of traffic pattern use that
could include shallow moguls or wavy bits.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades And Un-Groomed:

Here are where the real sensitivities lie because of the
volume of Holiday guest traffic that came after the
big snowfall accumulations of the last week.

Consequently, the bush is well traveled and subject
to highly individual decent line quality that may include
both excellence and risk, all within a few metres within
any linear path.

All initial explorations should be undertaken with very
cautious low speeds to facilitate instant course correction
and hazard avoidance. Many of the hazards can not be
seen from above, so slow speed is the only way to be
able to safely navigate.

For Sous Bois bump fans... joyful challenge around every
bend and over every crest, please just be careful. Trees
don’t move.

Archival Copy Of Official Daily Message:

Bonjour Tremblant! There is a light blanket of fresh snow
covering our mountain this morning, 48 cm fell in the last
7 days and we have over 573 acres of available terrain!
It is going to be a great day on the slopes so take an extra
day off and come enjoy skiing at its best!

Please also note that due to the ongoing snow making,
snow conditions are variable and visibility is affected in
some areas of the mountain. Therefore, exercise extra
caution on the slopes.

Have a great day, and we look forward to seeing you at the summit.
