T360 Proof Of Snow.
Our first “Proof Of Snow” for the season...
We can tell you for a fact that there are powder drift
lines in the open Sous Bois with over 1 metre depths.
1.6.25.Nord.North.Sous.Bois.Proof.Of.Snow.Sample.b.jpg
This sample is yesterday, within the Versant Nord/North Side
Lowell Thomas zone and you can go there today and find these
exact conditions with fresh tracks potential still available.
Additionally...
Big Local Favourite Opening Today,
Versant Nord/North Side Trail # 57 Devils River.
We noticed the initial rough cut grooming yesterday
and took this quick pic. over the Devils River entrance
thinking... “Maybe Tomorrow?"

What Could Be Next On The List? Maybe???
Expo has been on the snowmaking list since 12.24.24 and at that
time we thought that based on previous years of Expo developments
there could be a chance of it opening just before or on New Years
day, but we were wrong on that one. Based on the current observations,
we’d certainly have to say that Expo is very close and when it does open
due to size of the Big Bump snowmaking inventory, we’d also have to
say that the quality is going to be at the highest levels attained in
recent years, simply because we think these are the hugest and the
biggest number of sequential big bumps we’ve ever seen on Expo.
1.6.25.Expo.Quad.Views.Expo.Pitch.Big.Bump.Snowmaking.c.jpg
We like to point out that Expo now opens in each new season
at finished levels of coverage on day-one, that we never, ever
saw in an entire season back in the 1970’s. The big bumps
cover all manner of rocky irregularities so effectively that
when milled flat by groomers for opening it is quite nearly
flawless, from which point it is usually left for use for a while
to evolve it’s own traffic generated mogul pattern.
In the mean-time, if you’re looking for grooming perfection,
or really close to it...
1.6.25.Soleil.Algonquin.Super.Wide.Super.Smooth.d.jpg
Not only was Algonquin really close to perfect, but Franc Sud,
the Soleil Sector top access trail was all-day smooth and easy,
so for aspiring Beginners and Intermediates, this was an easy
choice for training/practice excellence. We expect similar for
today, however with the wind direction, this trail could actually
see some powder drift-in on the right descending side along
the trail edge tree line.
Its going to be an “interesting" day...
Weather Notes:
Statistically warmer, but practically, just as cool due to the wind.
There are going to be gusty bits today that may come
under the label “Howler”...
Not only will you need to dress for that, but it could
affect safe lift operations, so before you head off the
Summit, be sure to check the Info. Board or the Info. Ski
crews to confirm the lift you’re heading for is open.
Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
Very fine ambient groomed finishing, but with the caveat
that wind or traffic, or both, could shape evolving wear
factors or evolving(what could be erosive), wind exposure
factors.
A lot of wild cards so explore at easy and work up after
you’re confident you can maintain absolute speed and
directional control at all times.
The Nor-West frontal wind facing zones may exhibit slick or
icy exposures. Upper Sud/South Summit sectors may have a
wind tunnel effect coming around corners or descending
over crests where those slick or icy zones may occur in patterns.
Look for them and slow down before you hit them. For Boarders,
there may likely be some “foot out” sections where you need to
push across plateaus.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Where open on Nord/North and Edge sectors, very fine
to excellent as per our “Proof Of Snow” above. In this
specific weather profile, these Nord/North and Edge
sectors could actually get better during the day as
there is some probability of a swirling backfill effect
over the Summit into the calmer lee-side behind the
main force of the wind.
Please Note: With dynamic weather and lift/trail opening
potentials today, it is important to obey all Ski Patrol
directives. They are dedicated to your safe and secure
enjoyment so pay close attention to all hand posted signage.
