Even though early season open terrain may be limited, the true
Ski/Board people are as enthusiastic as ever to be out on ANY
available slopes carving, riding, gliding and generally getting
into shape for the sweet snowy days of mature winter that will
be here very soon.

For goodness sake, we see YouTube video's of kids using
crushed ice and plywood in parking lots for Park Tricks...
Tremblant has that beat by a Million Precent!

Over this still very young season we have written about the value
of early season training days and there is still no reason to diminish
the significance of that. Building strength, muscle, agility, reaction and
sport specific reflex's does not depend on the quantity of Open terrain
so much when we can ski/board what we already have here at Tremblant.

By the standards of most "local" ski hills that non-local Tremblant fans
use when they can't be here, even these early season open slopes eclipse
what many smaller areas have in good mid-season.

Part of why what we have is so good, is the fact that Tremblant Crews
can work at almost 3000 feet over sea level at Tremblant's Summit
where colder temps due to this elevation allow both snowmaking and
retention, when other lower places have no such options.

Todays weather is warmer than any of the weather models were
projecting just a few days ago when we were hoping to have
well below zero that would be good for snowmaking. Instead
today, we have zero or so at South base. The Summit is still below
zero, enough to hold the snow in the trees from yesterday morning.
We'll take that over heat, any day.

Looking at the Summit Web Cam generally, then with
zoom-in views, can tell us a lot about the day before we
head over to the Mountain in the morning.

The winds are light and from the South-West, so moving across the Summit
from the Soleil sector. Riding up Lowell Thomas should be quite
pleasant for both snowy tree close scenery and mild temps.

If you're Happily involved with a partner,
married, cohabiting, seeing one-another,
in-a-relationship, etc., etc., you never
think about being "stuck" with that one
person. That's the positive way we think about
Tremblant, no matter how much terrain is open.

The fact that Tremblant Mountain Crews do such a
good job of keeping what is open in such fine shape
is icing on the cake.

After Dinner Apres Ski...

Compared to the last weekend weather models that we were
looking forward to because they showed we'd be in well below
freezing long before now, we've had right at zero
up until 6:00 pm or so.

Since then, the temps have dropped to the point that we
can see Mountain Crews have cranked up the SnowMaking
at Base levels, both South and North.

We are not sure exactly how much they can get filled in,
but with temps going to -9C at base tonight and cooler
as you rise up the Mountain, we feel confident that they
should be able to get the 24Hour course in quite presentable
shape. This is due in part to much Snowmaking done way
back prior to Opening Day.

Dark as it may be, this Turbo SnowMaker is right beside
the Flying Mile Quad Chair Base.

Anyone who was here on Opening day knows how much of
lower Beauvallon was filled in then. From the TGV Quad Base
it would have been possible to ski to the Gondola base along
a narrow, but non-the-less complete path of blown snow.

This is a file photo from our Opening Day archive showing the
Beauvallon/Flying Mile intersection, just above Johannsen and
the South Side Base, viewed from the Gondola. You can clearly
see that there was a very well established track. This track extended
all the way back up to the TGV Quad Loading zone.

Much of that has stayed in place, and what hasn't has helped to
saturate the ground underneath so with a nice freeze like tonight,
that saturation will help conduct cold into the Mountain. We think
that, and a fresh coat of blown on top, will quickly re-establish
Lower Beauvallon.

On top of that, there's up to 15 cm of natural fresh snow in the
forecast for the next 30 hours or so. Imagine what a difference
that could make.

Snowmaking on the North, at the base is going on now.
All we can say is Wow! We have no idea if this can materialize
into any actual skiable terrain to the North base, but if they could,
that would be absolutely phenomenal! It is possible that this North
Base work is just regularly scheduled work and has nothing to do with
24H prep, but non-the-less, there is SnowMaking right now at the
foot of the Expo Quad Chair.
