Forget the Statistical Totals Because The "Drifting" Factor
Renders Them Inadequately Low In Many Places.

The windblown factor rendered them "windblown" in others, but
this was a way small minority of spots that were fairly easy to
anticipate.

We Got Knee High Powder Shots Almost All Day
By Doing A Bit Of Exploring And Turns On The
Trail Edges.

More Late Night Apres Ski, Later, In "Reply" Below....

Mother Nature Created A Ghostly World Of
Swirling Black 'N White And Amazing Contrasts.

The natural contours of Tremblant's topography are a
very big factor in the way the snow has fallen. While
we were standing in it at close to last run, it was
impossible to not be impressed with the remarkable
variations in conditions that could be seen within just a few
meters in some cases.

Perhaps one of the best examples was the howling presence of
the wind coming up at the Summit of Beauchemin, while literally
a few meters away Just below the Summit, off of Lowell Thomas
you could find the great natural beauty with a very tranquil, almost
peaceful look of the two photo's above.

The "Spooky" part was that while you were in awe of the
almost surreal and delicate snow covering of all the fine
individual tree boughs and branches that would fall away with
the slightest touch, beyond this immediate shelter the sound of
the wind above was like a roaring torrent of immense sonic
background depth that was inescapable. Very Etherial.

Given that the Snowfall came in the presence of this vigorous, gusty wind,
it will mean that a considerable amount of drifting will have occurred
creating deep pockets of snow in some areas, particularly the Narrower
Trails off the Summit. That will also mean that there can be windblown
areas that will expose very firm older substrate base and/or icy patches.

The Vast Majority Of Tremblant Open Terrain
Will Have Exceptional Surface Quality For The Rated
Skill Levels Of Each Trail.

However...

Safety Caveat:

The directionally variable and gusty wind will have generated
both irregular deposits of snow and some windblown bare or
icy patches. You need to pay attention to the way you find these
patterns, and then use caution with speed and navigation.
They may be more common around steeper pitches, over crests,
or on wide open runs subject to direct winds, for example. There
may be other Natural Hazards in the Un-groomed open terrain.

Today's Weather....

Very easy -5C daytime high under snowfall overcast with a
forecasted moderate Nor-East Wind this morning that will
swing around to North during the day. Sort of a repeat
of yesterday afternoon with the wind coming up P'tit Bonheur
but shifting around a bit as if it's coming from between there
and Nansen. Any time we see shifting directions, we expect
to see more gusts and variable drifting as well.

At this precise moment, it is snowing rapidly and thickly on
the South Side base. There is very little, to no apparent wind,
so the snow is coming straight down and settling nicely on everything
in sight.

EXPO shows Groomed from Top To Bottom on todays list.
It certainly looked very Skiable riding overhead and for those
willing to take a few risks in the un-groomed boundary areas,
such as underneath the Chair lift, there will be some very fine
powder turns to be had.

We think it's likely that Expo will see grooming refinement
over the next while, we'll have to wait and see.

We'll do our best to tour around as much as we can today
to get a more balanced look at the whole Mountain, but in
the mean-time, if you're thinking of a Tremblant visit, do not
hesitate for a single second. We've got so much snow for
this point in January and it's a perfect time to really get into
what's shaping up to be a great season.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If You  "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Late, But Not Quite Mid-Night, Apres Ski....

Under construction...

Difficult to describe today in words that could convey the
very large amount of snow that we've gotten in the last
30 hours or so.

Of course there's going to be an Official Total, Weather Statistics are
compiled for almost anything....

BUT,.... and far more importantly, "How" and "Where" did it end up
are going to be far more interesting to true Tremblant fans.

We've just had a quite significant Orographic Snowfall event at Tremblant.
Fortunately, the benefit has been distributed to one degree or another
on all 4 sectors of Tremblant, but we had people on the lifts actually express
what we thought too, there's more on the North Side.

It happens a lot here.

EXPO was actually closed, it had been marked "Progressive"
or gradual opening on this mornings Official List. It looked pretty
good from the chair lift, and evidently, there were either a lot of
Ski Patrol "Inspections", or some were jumping the lines.
All we did was look at it on the way up, thinking how great it
would be to try.
