Sunny Or Snowy...
Tremblant Is Spectacular In Any Weather!

This past couple of weeks has seen tremendous advancements in
the seasonal development of both Tremblant's Base and Open Terrain
inventory.

We've endured some really chilly mornings and windy days, but the
benefit we've gotten out of all the weather drama is absolutely suburb
Alpine Trail surfaces for all skill levels in Groomed and Au Naturel!

At 100% Open for the first day, our season is marking an important
milestone of completeness and the Mountain Crews at Tremblant are
to be congratulated for all the hard work they've put in over time
so far and the outstanding results produced.

The Skiing and Boarding have gotten better and better almost daily,
and other than coping with a lot of fresh snow which can take a day
or two to work into the Groomed base, each morning has brought us
some of the finest corduroy groomed surfaces we think you could
find anywhere. The quality of the snow due to the cold temp's that
Mother Nature brought it to us with, is at the very top of desirable
conditions for ease of edging, carving and all other important
control inputs. You can do anything you want within your rated
skill level designated trails and be assured of maximum surface
consistency and minimum glitches or hazards now.

This is not to say that there are no hazards, because there are, and
as long as you're dealing with Mother Nature, there will be, but those
natural hazards have been mostly within the Un-Groomed Experts Only
terrain, or some wide open sectors that have had unavoidable wind exposure,
but they have all been vastly reduced as the base thickness has
gotten deeper and deeper. We're looking forward to even more snowfall
of course, it's only January 21st after all, and we've got weeks and weeks
left of prime natural snow conditions still coming up.

Safety Caveats:

When Does A "Green" Trail Become A "Black" Run?
When The Ski Patrol Says So...

Perhaps the best example of this is the newest trail at Tremblant
right now, Algonquin, over on Versant Soleil. This is a masterpiece
of modern trail design that is a boulevard of cruising heaven...
when it's groomed.

When it's not groomed, like right now, it's for experts only due to
the combination of hazards that can be encountered and the skills
necessary to navigate those conditions.

When you got to Algonquin this past week
you saw signs posted as below... Believe them.

A time will come when Mountain Crew determine that
Algonquin should or can be groomed, that's when it's
true character as cruising nirvana will become realized
for not only "Green" level skills, but for everyone right on
up to experts, who appreciate a relaxed run on a perfect surface.

Today's Weather starts out at "Nippy", mid-Minus 20's C but should
quickly rise to -12 C or so under eventual sun, or at least thinning
overcast. Temps are definitely on the rise after tonight though, and
there is even a possibility of a very short "plus", above freezing event
on Monday. At this stage, the above freezing is forecasted to be only by
1 degree and for a few hours and if that's the case, we will not see any
significant effects at all, unless there was a lot of rain.

We'll try to do some more homework on the weather later on, but for now
we've got pure winter to enjoy for the weekend.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If You  "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

Another very fine day at Tremblant!

Here are a selection of "Week In Review" Motivators...

Reasons You Want To Ski Tremblant!

How 'Bout Some Moguls?
Expo is a longstanding favourite of many Tremblant regulars.
Here we see a Tremblant Ski School Instructor using the
tops of the moguls to execute perfect turns.

Riding Up the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair we get this fantastic
view of the "Edge". This week has been a good one for fans
of Tree Ski/Boarding. To some degree, the shelter of the trees
has kept snow that would have been moved off open trails, so
conditions there have been very good.

The Great Traction of Tremblant's surfaces can be seen in this Gondola
View. If you look at the lower right corner you can see where the wind
was moving snow across the trail. On some of the upper sections of
Summit based runs, this phenomenon was taking place across the
entire run. P'tit Bonheur was like this more than once this week,
where the entire run from side to side and for several hundred meters
in length was being continuously "Refreshed" by wind carried snow.
Skiing on these surfaces is excellent.

Good Apres Ski Weather News... particularly regarding the
forecast for the beginning of the week.

We were certainly among the group that was happy to see
the forecasted trend toward warmer temps for next week,
however, it seemed to be going a little too far and by this
morning, the Weather Network was predicting a "plus" C
burp in the temps for some of the daytime hours of Monday.

OOOPS... Not quite so far with the "Warm" please, Mother Nature.

So then, we just "Refreshed" the long term weather forecast and
the "plus" one, has now turned into "minus" one. Thank goodness!
Will it stay "minus" ????

We certainly don't have a crystal ball, but non-the-less, we take
some small comfort that our fine Tremblant Alpine Surfaces
have very good odds of not being effected at all.
