2/5/12 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

Mid Night Apres Ski Posted In Reply Below....

--------------------------------------------------

Early Apres Ski Edit @ 7:15 P.M.

It was Snowing, off and on all over Tremblant.
Accumulations were greater in some sectors.

Postcard du Jour... MCA, North...
Snowing, mostly all day in this area, created this
surreal, silent capsule of snowy nirvana. Satin soft surfaces,
almost as flat as a billiard table. Just enough fresh,
steadily falling, to keep it looking pristine.

South Side Cruiser du Jour.... Nansen.
Nansen was like indoor/outdoor carpet all the
way down, with one little exception, there were still
a series of race ruts on the main Pitch that could catch
you off guard in the grey light. If you hit one without seeing it
you could get a surprise launch air-ward. It still came out on
top for even quality, Summit to Base.

(He's either taking her picture... most likely...
or proposing "on bended knee"... we still think it's the picture...)

There were pockets of Sunshine that occasionally
brightened areas up to the point that you could make out
shadows.

If You Have Good, Sharp Recently Tuned Edges,
You would have had a mostly exceptional day...

If you did not have tuned edges, you will have found
slick or icy sectors occasionally that may have caused
reduced control.

5 Great Reasons To Be At Tremblant Today!

Today's Weather:

Whoa... it's a wee bit nippy out there, "Nippy" defined as -25 C...
Colder than expected we think, but not much wind so far,
and at least first thing, Sunny with intermittent cloud that could
turn into overcast.

Expected Day-Time Hight Temps around -8 C or 18F which are
not that hard to handle, particularly if the wind stays light to moderate
and from the Sou-West, or coming up the Mountain over Soleil.

At these low velocities, much of the North will be in the lee or sheltered
from any wind and everywhere else it should not feel like much at all.
....Subject to the whims of Mother Nature.

The Skiing/Boarding:

Absolutely Spectacular Alpine Snow Surfaces Though...

The Groomed will be like satin...
The Un-Groomed will be like thick suede...
Everything is Smoooth...
Pick your skill level and have a blast !!!

Conditions Caveats:

A) Weather .... Zero Exposed Skin Alert...
at least first thing this A.M. It's Cold out there...

B) Equipment .... Fresh Sharp Edges Are your Best Friend
when there's a "Firm" base that can be exposed by daily
traffic, wind or naturally occurring steeper or wide open
pitches.

C) Speed .... Things are Very, Very Fast, so "Fast" that
accidents can happen if you are not cautious about exploring,
traffic or unexpected glitches. Please, Please be careful.

Thanks for your visit, stay "tuned" if you feel like it,
but you should actually be on your way now!
We'll be adding more at various stages of "Apres Ski"
as time permits.

Oh Sure... there are a million legitimate reasons
why you may not be able to get here today, but if
you could, and you've chosen something different,
that's a critical error.

Tremblant is worth every effort you make
to be out on what are arguably the finest
slopes in Eastern North America, maybe
anywhere in the world if you love it as much
as many of us here do.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If You  "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski...

It was like the...

"Attack Of The Giant Snow Tsunami"

...Or at least that's how it looked as this giant white cloud
with a very straight edge showing the the faintest hint
of a curl in a most wave-like fashion, stretched for what
would have been hundreds of miles, almost as far as the
eye could see.

This totally unique weather frontal system was literally awesome
and we're not sure if we've ever seen anything quite like it in
decades of Tremblant weather observation.

Is All This "Drifting" You Keep Talking About
On The Level????

What Do You Think.... These Ski Poles are about 150 CM tall.

You Bet... The shape of the Mountains contours and the way
the wind moves over it, especially when there's enough moisture
to generate snow, cause entire sectors of Tremblant to
get and hold far more than the statistical totals.

Half the fun of exploring Tremblant every day is finding where
these extraordinary amounts of snow have turned up.

Above...
There was less traffic than we thought there would be,
someone on a Chair Lift remarked "SuperBowl Sunday"
was a likely candidate for causing some absenteeism.

Not us... Ski these fantastic conditions... or, sit in front of a
T.V. all day.... Hmmmm... we choose Skiing!

We Found Some More Of That Snow
You're Looking For....

If you've been paying even the slightest attention to all
the Ski and Board Edge Tune-up mentions we've been doing,
You'll have fantastic days here at Tremblant. If you have not,
and "It's Been A While" since you've gotten a Tune-up,
Do it NOW... and get on with your season!

20 Degrees Celsius WARMER tomorrow morning, over this
morning... Wow, what a relief. Rising up to -1C, so hey
Mother Nature... careful with the "Heat"!
