What can we say....

Today.... Tomorrow... That's It.

There must be a ton of people at home who like to watch the grass grow.

We can't help but think that there would be more out on Tremblant's slopes
if they knew how much fun, enjoyment, beauty, fine exercise or quality
there is in the Open, and very well Groomed Alpine Snow Surfaces, or if
they were really thinking about how long they have to wait 'til the end
of next November to Ski or Board again.

Below...
This South Side Trail Sample from yesterday on Upper Beauvallon
captures the completeness of this run that we don't always have on
the closing weekend, regardless of the total Open Trail count.
The point is that even with less on the list than we'd like to have...
(what skier/boarder doesn't want more....), the Open trails we do have
are in remarkably fine shape with broad coverage and relatively few
glitches. This is typical of all the Open, Groomed terrain at Tremblant
right now on both South and North.

We were taking shots at the top of Sissy Schuss yesterday, looking for
someone who was showing good technique and style. Unfortunately,
the telephoto was zoomed in too far and this persons pic got taken
in a mis-framed way that cut them off at the shoulders. Normally,
we might discard a pic. like that but we're putting it in here because
it very clearly shows not only fundamentally solid, well centred and
balanced skills, but the definitive well laid edge tracks that you can make
here at Tremblant today, from First Run, to Last.

Todays Weather.... Sunny, high temps @ +9C, moderate

Re: 4/8/12 Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Night, Global Apres Ski....

A very pleasant ultra-Spring Skiing/Boarding day with a
small but enthusiastic crowd who were having a marvellous
time shredding up the surfaces which below the mid-Mountain
mark, were very soft. Above the mid-Mountain mark, conditions
were just soft.

This softness, as it is covering all the surfaces to one degree or
another, actually has contributed to some rather good carving
in areas that 48 hours ago had a somewhat icy substrate.

Below...
La Traverse, from Rope Tow, down to the base of the Lowell Thomas
Triple Chair was a prime example of the softness yielding a benefit
as it made practically the whole run very easy to set and hold a fully
carved edge. Previously, there has been a snowy top layer over a very
firm to somewhat icy base, but today, it was all soft, so no more
side-slipping, skidding or unexpected loss of traction. You could drive
turns in big complete round arch's in complete confidence.

When we say that above, we need to clearly state that our Ski gear
is in excellent tune, so our edges are very, very sharp and fresh.
Our base's are coated with a liquid teflon derivative that is Hydrophobic,
so our control and quickness is due to these two major Factors.

If you do not have sharp edges, if you do not have "Warm" temp range
Base wax, you may or will find things icy in places, or with a fair degree
of moisture resistance/friction/suction that can substantially reduce speed.

This is nothing new to experienced "Spring" Skiers/Boarders. Those
"Spring" frequent fliers know exactly what to do in order to enhance
speed in saturated surfaces. We did our bases and we had great speed
today.

We did Duncan today and here is what we found....

You had to ski the ridge of snow left by the Groomers at the top of
Duncan, down to about the level of the entrance to Devils River. From
there down to roughly 50 meters below the Duncan/Vanier intersection,
it was full width for most of it. From that point, you had to ski the
Grooming ridge on the right side of Duncan down to the lower
plateau/runout, which was full width. The narrow sections were
expert only difficult.

Above...
Unfortunately, there was a significant glitch with the Lowell Thomas Triple
chair that forced it's closure for the rest of the day, from Mid-Afternoon.
We happened to get off Lowell T., and make it down to the North Park
top jump when it stopped.

There were people that hiked to the Summit on Rigodon, and up Rope Tow.

We have no idea what caused the glitch, but we sure hope the Night Shift
gets it fired back up for tomorrow's closing day.

With the car parked 20 meters From the base of the Expo Quad, We were
very happily "Stuck" doing 7-8 minute fast/training laps on Sissy Schuss.
Any of our very patient regular readers will know how much we "like"
Sissy Schuss, especially when there aren't many around and it's safe to
dial up the speed a wee bit... that's when it becomes "Sassy Schuss",
with a lot of great "Attitude". This Classic Tremblant descent, brilliantly
created in 1948, is one of the finest natural roller coaster trails in Eastern
North America when you can safely take it with a hint of speed.

All in all.... First Rate Fun on the Second Last Day!

Down to 27(*) Open Trails tomorrow as today was the final day
for the Flying Mile sector.
