We had a real problem with our photography today...

This is exactly the kind of "problem" we like to have!

Yup, there was sooo much snow at times that it
fooled the camera's focus system...

Did a pretty good job of showing the snow though....

Big, fat, fluffy, soft, silky, smooth... off 'n on,
Loonie size Snowflakes from time to time...

At other times, more normal or even fine size snow too.

14(*) Open Trails at Tremblant with another
coating of crystal dry Fresh Snow!

(Today's pic's may seem a bit grey, and/or fuzzy. That's a "Happy Problem"
because it means that there's Ton's of falling snow and it frequently blows
right into the lens. If you are lucky enough to be out in it, the softness underfoot
is nothing short of classic Tremblant winter weather.)

Conditions Summary...Excellent.

One Pic.Conditions Description...
This beautiful, easy shred surface is almost everywhere.
please note: we had to burn through snowfall and a wet lens
to get this, but it sure tells the story...

The surface quality this morning is going to be better
than yesterday's already superb level due to 7CM or
3 inches of additional new snow that's very definitely
increasing the base thickness on both South and North
sides fairly equally.

As usual, there's debate about where more snow may have
ended up with wind direction and drifting factors, but we've been
surprised by the fairly even distribution to both sides with yesterdays
fresh snow.

Compared to virtually every other Opening Week in
Tremblant History, this one blows the stat's right off
the charts on almost any standard of measure you
care to use.

Even though then the open trail count has remained the same,
the development of those trails has brought them from
"Exceptional Opening Day" quality, up to "Fine Mid-Winter Days"
quality.

We feel additional new open runs are surely very close to being
brought on-line simply because there's so much snow here that
some of them even look skiable with only the natural snow that's
fallen.

Below: Here's an example of an Upper North Trail, Le Tunnel, #66,
that's starting to look "Filled in"(Seen from Lowell Thomas Triple Chair).
Like other similar trails here, it does not get any blown snow, so it's "open"
status is totally dependant on Natural Snow. It will be interesting to compare
the opening of these types of trails this year to previous years, but we suspect,
given this seasons "early" trends, that it will be sooner than normal.

Below: The refinement of Johannsen down to the resort base
is a definite asset to user friendliness as it's originally adequate,
but somewhat narrow track-like dimensions, are now up to
practically full width smooth and from wall to wall. A huge
improvement that has no doubt been sped up by all the
fresh natural snowfall.

All the fresh new has not slowed the efforts of Mountain Crews
though, as they continue to add to it. Building this base now
should pay off all the way through to next April with a snow
reserve that should ensure surface coverage for the whole
season.

Here below is another example of "Base Building" from just 3 days ago.
We asked these Crew Members if we could take their pic. in front
of some of the fabulous work they do, in this case, the lower portion
of trail #7 Alpine, as it intersects with Mi-Chemin traversing over to
the TGV Quad base. By this morning this will all look totally different,
but never-the-less, the durability of this sector right through the
entire season is enhanced by their tremendous efforts now.
Merci Mountain Crews!

Below: Base Thickness Building seems weeks, if not a month ahead
of normal or average levels. This shot taken in the mid-section of
P'tit Bonheur yesterday afternoon, pretty much sums up the feel
you'll have on all the open terrain... There's a lota' Snow around here!!!

What Are We Learning Today?

Any time is a great time to be learning at Tremblant. Anyone
that learns to Ski/Board well here, can go anywhere in the world
and perform at top levels. Tremblant has been making outstanding
Alpine Snow Sport Graduates, Olympic and World Cup Medal Winners
for 75 years!

Today's Weather...

It got down to a fair bit below forecast last night at -16 C, but that's
just fine, thank you very much, because it helps "Dry Out" any moisture
level in the blown snow as it integrates with the natural for outstanding
surface quality.

Temps are already rapidly rising and will see somewhere around -3C by
lunch hour under an overcast sky with more snowfall.

...nice, we like that.

The winds start out at moderate 15KM velocities from the South-West
coming up the Soleil sector, but they're projecting a swing to the Nor-West
later on and we feel there will likely be gusty periods with the directional
shift.

That could mean some interesting drifting going on later on, so we'll cover that
in Apres Ski if need be.

Another easy early winter day...

If it keeps up like this...

Any time you can make it to Tremblant, you're
in for an exceptional treat!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski, Late Evening, Wallpaper Edition @ 10:28 P.M.

The problem in writing about a day like today is that
all the right words are either so overused that they don't have
the same significance anymore, or that they are inadequate
to describe the actual realities Tremblant's Alpine Experience...

(page under construction...)

Thank goodness for photography....

It started with the Gondola ride up to the "spooky" Summit.....

At the precise moment we got there the first time, the Summit snow was a finer
particle size.

It wasn't long however, before the small snow particles became
giant size huge flakes that could fool a camera focus system...

In between the snow squall episodes, the pure white winter scenery
of a Tremblant winter revealed typical Summit drifting patterns
like this powder line down the side of Rope Tow.

The Postcard Views are overwhelming in number, but the pristine
appearance of an un-skied trail like Le Tunnel is especially pretty,
not to mention that it may not take too much more to have it open...

The South certainly got it's own fair share of fresh snow too. Nansen
does not have trail edge powder lines very often, but it did today...

Made it back to the Gondola just in time for "Last Run", so we got
to the Summit at around 3:35 P.M. and most of the falling snow
had travelled on. What was left were as many "Long Distance"
views as you could point your camera at....
