12/5/12 Tremblant Conditions

Apres Ski, Super Short Intro. @ 10:10 P.M....

Thanks for all your visits!

We've got an array of Webcam snap shots that while not fancy
DSLR pic's, non-the-less, tell a story we think is good Tremblant news.

Working on that right now, below in "reply"...

Sorry for delay, previous commitments and all...

--------------------- 7:33 A.M. Orig. Post --------------------

19(*) Open trails on the re-chilled slopes of Tremblant.

O.K., so the dampest part of the weather glitch is behind us.

Now it's time to move on towards recovering surfaces which will
come primarily from Mountain Operations Snowmaking and Grooming...

but....

Here's what we like to see in our "First Thing Webcam Homework"....

Summit Snow!
It may not be a lot yet, but whatever it is, it's way better than wet!

...and, not only is there a bit of accumulation, you can see flying streaks
of snow across the lens as well, so there's at least a bit more on the way.

Conditions today will be a "Nut's and Bolt's" mix of all kinds
of different surface qualities, and there will be glitches, however
with good edges, there will also be acres and acres of very good
Skiing and Boarding. After the damp weather and a return to
sub-zero, it's inevitable that the transition to complete restoration
will take some time, as in a day or 2.

Incremental surface improvements will happening constantly.
Daily traffic helps, and overnight grooming works better and
better top layers. Additional Natural Snow, as we have coming
down now, and all that may follow will be a big help too.

Every day for the next little while could see the more normal daily
weather patterns common to this time of year. The one saving grace
of the daily temp values is that the overnights are forecasted to
be sub-zero every single night, so we anticipate seeing quite a bit of
overnight snowmaking.

We think you can look forward to seeing quite a bit
in the next few days from our Hero's in Snowmaking!

We also continue to feel that the possibility of Top-To-Bottom on
the North Via Beauchemin, plus some added Expo sector terrain
is a high probability.

Time will tell there too, but there's a lot of work going on over many
lower sector North trails.

Opening Full Vertical North would add a lot of options and versatility
in terrain access for the busy 24 Hour Weekend.

T360 Apres Ski, Under Construction @ 10:20 P.M.

(This is also a draft preview of some of what we'll be using in
the morning, so please bear with us.)

Recovery from "Warm" or "Damp" is always quickly facilitated by
consistent sub-zero temps overnight and luckily that has been occurring.
So then, today is really the high energy start to restoring and preparing
not only the previously open terrain, but the terrain that is scheduled
to open for one of the busiest weekends of the Tremblant calendar,
the 24 Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser Ski/Board Marathon.

South Resort Base Spectator Observation and Event Start/Finish Zone.
Everything's in place...

We're now actually going to review for a moment, with 2 Webcam
Snap Shots from December 4th. These 2 shots illustrate a very important
point for those planning to visit Tremblant this coming weekend while the
24 Hour event is on.

We did notations on a pic of this same scene 2 days ago and
despite the "Heat" that's been around, the Footprints in the snow
on the Chalet deck surface are still there 2 days later!

Three hours later, at what should be the warmest hour of the day,
they're still there, even though the South Side Resort Base level
is showing signs of heat/thaw.

What this means is that the North stayed cool enough to hold
footprints in a couple of inches of Fresh Snow for 2.5 days while
everyone else on the other side of the Mountain was worried about
it shrinking.

As you will see following below, we think this is important because
it goes together with our speculation that there may, could be, would
be nice if... the North Side was Open on the weekend from the Summit,
all the way down to the base, with a lift back to the top!

With all the busy 24 Hour Charity activity, having the North Open,
would take a big load off the South Side Lift System serving the Charity
Marathon participants. Regular Skiers/Boarders who are just out
for a beautiful day on the slopes for personal enjoyment or exercise
may have this area to run on, and if they do, it could be less crowded
than the South, allowing them to get in a lot of unrestricted vertical.

In the Mean-Time, the Summit has stayed below zero most of the time
for the past several days, with less "warm" impact than many may have
thought would occur. Mornings have featured Snowmaking like this

No matter when you looked at the Summit today, you could see
snowmaking... and a wee bit of Natural Snow too.

Remarkably, the North Base stayed cool enough to do Snowmaking
pretty much all day. Sample at 12:54 P.M.

On top of that... some one shovelled the deck!
Now we're not sure if it's the same for everyone, but the only
reason some people shovel off the "Front Door" is if they
expect Guests!
