It was a gorgeous day, a day that inspires passion for the Mountain
experience no matter what Winter Sport you enjoy.

who has taken on the role of Ambassador on behalf of the
24 Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser!

Erik was finally able to made time for us on Sunday morning and impressed
us to no end with his humble sense of privilege and responsibility for
his role representing this years 24 Hour event.
He told us directly that he identifies with the noble purpose
of the event as a father himself and his serious dedication
to being available to get that message across is the subject of a
Blog Feature we'll be putting up A.S.A.P., within the next day.
Erik is a very down-to-earth individual that not only performs
at World Champion Competition Skiing as a Gold Medalist and
Downhill World Champion, but thoroughly understands the very
real needs represented by the 24 Hour Children's Charity event
and makes time for it as a top priority between his World Cup
European Events Schedule.... That's dedication!
So Then... While Erik was helping raise awareness for the
event, participants were cracking off the laps, one after
another, racking up impressive totals all the way around!

begins with Record setting pledges of Aprox. $2,070,000 from
the Ski/Board 24, plus the Marche/Walk 24. There were a record
number of Participants in this years event at very near 2000, and
a 12 year total of funds raised of over $12,000,000!
The 24 Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser is the largest, most dedicated
and serious Ski Resort Charity Fundraiser held anywhere in North America,
and as Erik Guay told us himself, it is World Class by any Global standards
he has seen.

Back to today's Weather "Drama"....
(**)Breezzzy, defined as "Winter Storm Warning, High Winds",
enough to require Shuttle from South base to North base as
South Side lifts have to be off-line for safety reasons.

"Winter Storms" are not well regarded by many, but at a Ski Resort...
We Love them! Anything that brings Snow is a welcome guest as far
as we're concerned, however the velocity of the winds that are present
with this weather system are a "Bit over the top", literally, as well as
figuratively, in this case.
Without being at the Summit it's hard to tell yet how this may effect
Surface conditions beyond the obvious logistical necessities of shuttling
around to the North which practically speaking mean skiing/boarding
the North as well.

Clues to Summit Conditions are easier to get now with
the new "Traffic Signal" which now incorporates an LED
data display including Temp Values, alternating in
degrees C and F, plus the precise time.

access is only from the North, that means taking the shuttle
back around which makes it a long cycle, so South Side is
basically a one way trip until winds calm down a bit.
There will be windblown portions, but after all the recent fresh snow
was packed and groomed as much as possible into place by Mountain
Crews, we're hoping that lift issues are the only glitch and that the
snow stays put.
This high wind is coming from the South-East, so coming up the Mountain
from between the Duncan and Soleil sectors, rushing across toward Nansen.
The temps are actually supposed to go a bit "Plus" by a degree or two,
but if you were here now, we think you'd agree it sounds a lot colder than
that. The base level temps may wander around the freezing mark, but
we're absolutely certain the Summit will stay well below.
There is potential for great amounts of drifted snow in any lee-ward
or sheltered areas. That's great news if it happens, especially on
terrain that does not have Snowmaking, where there may be some
very quick "Fill-in Rates".

This webcam SnapShot of the trees behind the Lowell Thomas Triple
Summit Off-load zone is one of the best indicators of Top-side
conditions. Extreme wind will blow the snow off the tree boughs
and warm air will very quickly melt the snow off the trees as there's
no insulation for them, so seeing all this pretty snow in them
at 8:30 A.M. despite the high wind warning, is a very good sign.
