1/12/13/Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski Intro. @ 10:40 P.M. Full version in Reply, attached below...

Don't think we've ever seen this many people from Oshawa all
with smiles this big at the same time... Just kidding...
But Foggy and a wee bit Soggy did not diminish the Spirit
of Oshawa at Tremblant as the evidence clearly shows!

Our Thanks go out to the Oshawa group in sincere appreciation
for their kind words regarding Tremblant360. Your positive feedback
on the site means more than we could ever say. It is our honour to
have met you and we look forward to seeing you again, anytime,
be that tomorrow, or anytime in future.

Of course "Seeing You" might literally be easier the next time
if not so foggy, but that had almost nothing to do with the "Spring
For a Couple of Days" conditions that were still very fast today.

--------------- 7:57 A.M. Orig. Post ----------------

95(*) Open Trails on the 4 Easy "Spring For A Couple 'O Days",
Slopes of Tremblant.

Couple of introductory notes:

We were using a way old Canon SD600 backup camera by the time
"Last Run" came around, so images as per.

Due to very dark flat grey light, and it turns out, sort of a sleety residue
on the lens, images have been cooked, highlighted, contrasted max'd etc.,
etc. to show Snow Surface detail as much as possible. It's a wonder they
came out at all, so really, not too bad. Very Very challenging day for
photography.

"Last Run".... Jan.11th, 2013,
before all the "Heat" forecast for today, makes it's way through.

A Run of "Pure Winter" and a great way to summarize
a record setting Early Season of superlative Quality....
which, by the way, will still all be there today and onward.

By now, your beginning to understand why we don't have too
much sympathy for the Wet Whiners coming off the South who
never saw this all day....

We've crossed over the wide open expanse of Upper Beauchemin
to the continuation of this descent path to Axle. Looking back,
you can see Andy-Moe winding up the Mountain in the far end of this view.

We intentionally left out the Beauchemin traverse because we wanted to
maintain the sense of intimacy within the dimensions of these two runs,
not to mention we only had 5 pic's left on the memory card....

There really aren't any already way overused words to describe the beauty
of this descent path. If you have not taken it recently, or ever, do it
as soon as you can. The bonus is... it's beautiful in any weather.

All too soon, we see the end of this little Nature adventure coming
up at the mid-point of Lowell Thomas, bottom of Rope Tow,
top of La Traverse and Rigodon.

From this point we actually took Lowell Thomas Bas, Lower, to Gagnon,
then crossed over Gagnon to the Side door of Sissy Schuss, then down to
lower Fuddle Duddle. Truly a Classic Tremblant Descent.

Today will be different for sure, with a high temp of +4 C and drizzle
forecasted. With this base level temp, the Summit may not see much
impact though with the elevation differential @ 4 C, +/- cooler.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Late Night Apres Ski...

Under construction at 11:00 P.M.

Spring for a couple of days....

Spring, like as in temps, or Spring, like as Spring off this HUGE
ramp and go Flying, beside the Flying Mile Quad...

Not much you can do when Mother Nature decides to turn it up a bit.

We're thankful that it's not all that bad in the sense that:

1) It's short compared to many true "January Thaw's"
2) There was almost no real rain so far, just a very drizzly
and very foggy background almost everywhere.
3) Not all that much wind either, so while almost any "Heat"
affects snow in the trees, it could have been a lot worse up to
this point if the wind was more significant, because really big winds
do work more on surfaces.
4) Super easy to dress for, warmth wise anyway... We were using the
Descente Poncho today. We could probably have gotten away without it,
but better super dry than Soggy, so once you've got it on, leave it on.
5) Speed unaffected. That could change to morrow, but today was "Fast"!

Kinda' freaky though when it was -27 C just a few days ago,
now it's + whatever... 4 or 5.

It takes less than a day for the tree life to awaken in + temps
and that was plain to see right up to within 50 Vertical meters
of the Summit.

Less than 15 Meters down the Mountain from the above, we've done
4 or so passes on the right side of Bansai where after 2 or 3 days,
there's still a Powder edge!

There's no doubt, we've lost a lot of snow in the trees, but that
is a completely separate thing from snow on the Alpine Trails of
Tremblant.

Trees don't have metres of deep, very cold frost under them
and Trails do, so they have a huge advantage in snow retention
which is enhanced by packing and grooming that compresses the
snow accumulations into tight layers that benefit from the
conductivity of the cold stored in the Mountains Frost. It would take
weeks for the frost to come out and that's not going to happen
right now with this short Thermal Cycle, despite what's going on
in the trees.

Look On The Not-So-Bright Side, no Sun, no Thermal Heat Rays!
No Thermal Heat Rays = less damage!

Don't get us wrong, we love the Sun and we Love
the solar warmth, but when it's minus 10 C or more
and there's no thawing created, not when it's above zero
to begin with.

One More Spring Day on Sunday, then, back to normal... we hope.
