All's well that ends a weird winter day...
Mountain Crews will be working all night on this one....
We're not sure you would believe us about today, but it did
indeed happen....
Apres Ski Posted Below in "Reply", before 9:00 P.M.
-------------- 7:43 A.M. Orig. Post ----------------
70(*) Open Trails at Tremblant on all 4 sides of this....
(if you notice a bit of smudging, that's "wet lens syndrome" from blowing snow.) Except "this" is not all... There's More!!!
More Snow!!! It Snowed pretty much all night!
Too Bad... if you have to shovel this morning....
Too Excellent, if you get to Ski of Board Tremblant today!!!
The scene above was shot at just before 4:00 P.M. at "Last Run"
on Versant Nord, just below the Summit, about 1/3rd the way down
the top pitch of Beauchemin, where you can turn right, to get back
over to the Lowell Thomas Sector.
In this case we had actually come from the top of Andy-Moe, diagonally
from the P'tit Bonheur entrance. We very much like this descent path
because of the "Post Card" scenery and the narrow dimensions of the runs
that beautifully retain drifted snow. These runs are not steep at all, so we
would take anyone from a confident beginner up, to try them. As long as you
can perform a "Snow Plow" based turn, you can make it down these iconic
Tremblant runs and for nothing other than the obvious natural beauty, we
recommend to try them today.
Todays weather is supposed to be with a day-time high of +2C and
The Weather Network Graphic shows we've reached +1C by 7:23 A.M.,
so who nows exactly where that will end up, we hope no higher.
The typical 4 to 5 degreeC Cooler temps at Summit elevations should
protect the Upper levels quite well, and of course with a bunch of new
and highly drifted snow, we expect that to be ton's of fun, but the wind
is far more vigorous this morning, so it's possible there may even be
wind related lift issues... maybe, maybe not.
Conditions on the groomed should be very fine. At this close to freezing,
there will be tremendous compaction so grooming will likely have produced
a very dense, easy to edge on surface. It may be quite "Fast" too,
so Please use caution in the Weekend traffic with speed.
Below:
This Snow compacts to a very dense, but still very easily carved
surface. Where groomed, it is actually very "Forgiving" in the sense
that slight corrections to steering or speed control are quite easy to
execute with such nice traction.
On the un-groomed things could be highly variable. Yesterday we had a
Facebook Shout from G.R. and we suggested that late afternoon might see
some nice drifting on Marie-Claude Asselin...
There ya' go Gabo! We absolutely adore these close up, quiet, grey snowy
days with their feel of intimate connection, the comfort of being wrapped
in Mother Natures White Winter blanket.
You don't need to be a "Rocket Scientist" to figure out that Southerly
Brisk or Gust winds could effect the South Base levels, but the North
may well again escape much of that, as it is literally in the weather "Shadow"
of the Summit Peak, so we'll just have to get out there and find out first
hand.... But... We have at least partial answers to that in the homework that
can be done with the trusty Tremblant.ca Webcams...
Versant Nord, The North Side, Expo Quad Base Loading Zone @ 8:30 A.M. Snow In The Trees... there's your answer... we know for sure the North
base level temp is sub-zero at 8:30 A.M. because with any "+" value
temps the uninsulated snow in the trees melts very quickly, so the fact that
it is plainly visible tells us that has not happened yet.
Furthermore, it's supposed to be about -28C, 24 hours from now, so evidently
temps are going to be moving downward at some point.
From The Tremblant.ca Official Snow Report:
(We "Like" This...)
Today, Tremblant welcomes the Tournée Sécuri-Ski that promotes
awareness and encourages skiers and snowboarders alike to adopt
a safe and responsible behaviour on the slopes. From 9a.m. to 3p.m.,
the tour’s team will provide animation, hand out door prizes and teach
you all there is to know about the Mountain Code of Conduct.
70(*) Open Trails on the Official, Downloadable, PDF,
Trail and Grooming Status Report, Courtesy of Tremblant.ca We're very happy to see both Toboggan and Algonquin on the Soleil
Sector shown as Open and Groomed. This is a very good sign of the
stability of conditions on that part of the Mountain. We'll be prioritizing
a look at Soleil in todays Apres Ski, so hopefully we can get some
good pic's with weather co-operation.
Off to the Mountain now, so hope to see you here later on,
or even better, hope to see you on the slopes out there today....
