(The Moon always looks larger closer to the horizon as it rises, not to
mention that Telephoto tends to pull far objects and compress close objects,
sort of a cool, natural, special effect.)

Yesterday's etherial, freezing, other-worldly Last Run appearance was
definitely "Winter", but after Morning Lightning Strikes on this very spot???
Wow... what a wild weather day!!! Too Warm... Too Cold ...Too Windy

Getting off at the top of Duncan and facing into a swirling vortex of
wild winter winds, it was very easy to understand why there were lift
"issues" all day. Temps dropped like a 50 pound weight off a bridge from
+1C to -18C or so in about 4 hours. Awesome Mother Nature.

We had hoped to get over to Soleil yesterday, but unfortunately that
was not practical because swirling driving snow into camera lens is
very difficult to compensate for, so we'll try again today.

Wow, welcome back to Winter!

Even though this sector is off-line, you can still admire the views from La Crete
and we never get tired of that. Hopefully, some of this terrain will be back soon.

-29C, or for our American Cousins.... 20 Below Zero...
and rising up to -16C, or 3.something above Zero F,
certainly qualifies as Winter, but as usual, we have to
look at the positive sides....

Nothings melting today....

That leads us to the actual, real positives in this kind of weather....

1) Frost into the Mountain.... The length, quality, and quantity of our
precious Tremblant Alpine Snow Sports Season depends on what we
refer to as the "Thermal Momentum" of the ambient cold storage
that deep frost represents for both short term resiliency, and long
term durability.

A week ago, we were recovering from a typical January Thaw.
One of the main reasons we did not suffer any significant base loss
was the frost in the Mountain that kept the surfaces solid. As
we said back then, "solid" is a lot easier to work with than "gone".

That's short tem resiliency.

At Seasons end in April, because of the deep frost from days like we
have now, we will be able to Ski/Board, while somewhere out there,
some have switched to Golf.

That's long term durability.

We can only adapt to weather, so considering the positives gives us
the perspective we need to bundle up and press on...

Besides which...

2) We like our Snow "Squeaky" Cold, you know,
as you walk over it, it makes that sweet "squeak, squeak, squeak,
squeak...." sound that only very cold, dry snow makes.

This Squeaky Snow has unique performance characteristics
for edging, speed, braking, steering, carving and pure winter
feel that no other snow has.

The bonus today is Two-Fold...

1) Brilliant Sunshine.... is it just us??? .... or has anyone else noticed...
it's getting lighter outside earlier in the mornings, like at 6:30 A.M.
The sun is moving up and you will be able to feel it today because of....

2) Calm to no wind. Very light, or no winds will facilitate direct Solar energy
transfer to your person, where you can safely stop Trail-side in almost
any sunny spot.

Anyone who was here yesterday and was able to persist through to the
bitterly cold end knows full well, it was the unmerciful power of vicious
winds that while literally awesome, took some of the fun out of things.

Not so today... Even though the absolute temp values are low, the Solar
energy will help immensely in the comfort factor for not only today, but the
next couple of days too, in all likelihood as we experience a fairly stable
Arctic Air Mass for a while.

Conditions are very good and will incrementally improve every day,
sometimes even by the hour on all the Groomed Terrain.

We heard Beginner/Intermediate Skier feedback yesterday of "Thick"
and or "Lumpy" or "Uneven" and no doubt, when as much snow came
as did, things can get that way until the Humans have a chance to catch
up with Packing and Grooming.

Here is a big reason why in the form of a North Summit Sector Drifting
sample that is 4 meters Trail-Side off Lowell Thomas. A lot of this came
in 24 hours and it takes a while to integrate it into the base, which has
to be done during the Night Shift.

Crude Measuring devices, but effective picture. These Ski Poles are
a handy way of illustrating overall drifting depth and despite precise
numbers sure do show a general condition.

It's a Big Blue Sky over Tremblant!
An amazingly frosty, but very fine "Last Run" on
Banzai with Snow, Sun, Cloud ...all at the same time.

Please note: The entire Soleil Sector is on "Progressive" or Gradual
opening status. Sometimes at these low temps, Soleil is held off
for rider safety concerns regarding potential stoppages. We think
this will clear by mid-morning, but we can not verify that.

Bring Layers... You're going to need them.

Worth every second though, on very fine Winter Surfaces
that increase in refinement every day.

And This....

Wow, that was one supremely frosty, fast, cool, mega-traction
stunningly gorgeous, did we say frosty, or cool ??, oh yeah... Tremblant day!!!

We had virtually every layer we own... on.

If you've read through our regular post above, you'll recall
that we said we like our Snow "Squeaky" cold, well, we got our
wish.

Squeaky cold and mega Smooooth and Faaaast.

Excellent day for Snowmaking as you can see above in "Big Picture"
as well as what you see here below. It was cold enough to have almost
instant crystallization so it was really dry snow hitting the ground.

Best carving day in about 2.5 weeks and...
second best carving day of the season.

The only reason it's not the best carving day of the season is that 2.5
weeks ago we had more open.

The surface grip and performance on the open slopes we do have,
might arguably be the best so far this season. That's what Squeaky cold
snow gets you.

This was a day of carving with so much grip you tapped out
your quad muscles trying to control centrifugal force on turns
of such tight radius Bode Miller(^) would smile.

(We like Bode Miller 'cause his technique is a wee bit sloppy(like ours)
by some coaches tech standards and he sits back a bit which he uses
to do Jet Turns to accelerate between gates, but a bit ragged or not,
he's one of the fastest.)

Any lumpiness, thickness or other surface anomalies that were there
yesterday were gone. Beginners and Intermediates should have been
"Over the Moon" happy!

Carve This !!! P'tit Bonheur was Fast! ...and 90% of what we skied
today was exactly the same.

Actually, All Skill Levels should have been "Over The Moon" happy!

Smoooooothhhh..... Faaaassst. period.

There are only two groups of people who may believe this...

1) Those that were here with tuned equipment....

2) Those that will take our word because they know we try
our damnedest to be accurate.

There are very few days that see such a radical overnight
improvement, but today was one of them.

BUT...., BIG BUT.... It was so cold even a sliver of exposed skin
got frostbite in two runs.

You Absolutely Need Total Coverage!

We figured out an inexpensive cold weather "How To"...

Put on all your best layers, then, go and get and inexpensive
wind breaker shell 2 sizes too large and put that on... over everything.

Worked for us with a "Large" Columbia Shell that was kicking around
the hall closet, so we tried it and "Presto".... Almost Warm!!!!

Well, almost...

Anyway, today's performance was overwhelmingly superior
to anything we've had with the recent weather, so cold was
a lot easier to take with a smile frozen onto your face from
ear to ear!
