It may have been a few degrees warmer, but the difference in the
wind was enough to make it feel cooler on the face of it...
Actually, the wind could strip the heat out quicker than a starving
monkey can peel a banana..... real quick.
...Unless... you had all your layers with all their seals and overlaps
properly secured, in which case you could be fairly comfortable. If
there were any gaps in your outer envelop, you knew about that
instantly.
There were windblown, bare, semi-icy spots, like right at the top of
McCulloch/Kandahar, but they were quite minor in comparison to the
overall surface quality, and with tuned gear, easily traversed.
The North Lost the Expo Quad due to wind load safety issues in the afternoon,
so Lowell Thomas became the only North Sector access.

61(*) Open trails on the Cold Weather Safety Alert, South and North
sides of Tremblant.
------- Open Trail Caveat Notice ----------------
From the Official Tremblant.ca Snow Report:
Please note that the First Tracks are cancelled this morning due
to the intense cold. The Duncan, Soleil, Flying Mile and Edge lifts
won't be running today due to the cold. Get dressed warm because
the forecast is calling for a chilly day with plenty of beautiful sunshine!
So pull out the face mask and hot paws and take a few hot chocolate
breaks and you should enjoy a great day with excellent snow conditions!
--------------- End of Notice -------------------
Very Cold Air.... gets you Very Fine Snow Surfaces.
...Some pretty decent views too!
Only -32 C, 25.5 Below Zero F, early this morning...
warmer by 4C than yesterday! Nice!
Nicer yet that temps will rise under direct, brilliant Sunshine to
a balmy -20C, so it will feel warmer around lunch-time and into
the afternoon.
The unique and distinct properties of very cold snow have been
elaborated on many times in this Journal du Jour, so you can scroll
back through the recent days by using the "Previous Topic" button,
top right corner of screen, to go back and review the current musings,
but by this point, we're sure you know pretty much what to do, particularly
if you are already here and coping well with this Brilliantly Sunny, Wickedly
Cool Arctic Air Mass.
Sparkling in the sun, dry cold snow reflects diamond-like pinpoints
of light.
This will be gone all to soon and we'll return to a more normal range
of temp values, happily so, for the most part... but just the same,
and you'll probably think we're nuts, but we'll miss this when it's gone
for one huge reason....
If you can figure out how to stay warm...
and it's not that hard...
The Skiing Is Extraordinary.
The Snow is so cold squeaky dry that when you put your aluminum Ski Pole
into the snow it squeals with a sharp little "Reeeek" sound. Moving along
any plateau, or using poles to push yourself along results in an alternating
stereophonic "Reeeek, reeeek,reeeek,reeeek,reeeek,reeeek,reeeek,reeeeek"
for as far as you go. Very unusual, but the point is.... it skis like a dream.
Running Expo or especially La Griffe, then down the final 4 contours at the
bottom of Fuddle-Duddle, might well be some of the sweetest carving known
to the Human Ski Experience.
The lateral grip you can play with, experiment with, refine your technique with...
is astounding, and just as amazing, virtually seamless over the entire extent
of Tremblant's Open terrain.
This is what we will miss.
We won't miss the extra dressing required... but...
we surely will miss the fabulous, unique Cold Snow Surface Conditions.
There's nothing we can do about the weather other than adapt individual coping
strategies that our resources permit, there are inexpensive ways to bundle up
just the same as expensive ways to bundle up, so we all do the best we can.
The main point is "Will You Go", ... or not.
For those brave, tough, adventurers that do...
you will be rewarded by the overwhelming joy of a Skiing Experience
that will be a benchmark of the finest performance characteristics that can be
achieved... only on this one type of very cold formed Snow.
If you're reading this in the future as any component of an Archive Research
concerning Tremblant in these circumstances... Do Not Hesitate, Prepare, then go...
you will have some of the finest memories of your Ski Experience... Ever.

1) We Ski Tremblant in any weather...
and...
2) We appreciate every second of it ... !!!
