Welcome Back to Mid-Day "Warm",
with a forecasted after lunch high temp of -12C !

There is a very small issue with the temps today. It seems as
though it stayed cooler than expected over-night. The Forecast
was for -23C and it ended up at -31C. That does not mean it
won't achieve the forecasted highs, but it may take longer, or
not end up quite where they think.

Regardless... The Skiing/Boarding today will be very fine. All this
week, throughout the cold snap, Mountain Crews have been working
24 hours a day, diligently restoring, reshaping, refining all the Groomed
open terrain as well as preparing much of what's been closed due to
excessive cold, so the reopened Edge and Soleil Sectors should be
wonderful!

We want to talk about Expo for a moment because yesterday it
was covered in a fresh set of "Big Bumps" from over-night
snowmaking and riding up the Expo Quad Chair looking at it
gave the impression that there may have been slick or icy portions.

Right from it's Summit, for those who prefer it un-groomed,
Expo was excellent.

We are overjoyed to report that there was zero ice anywhere
on the line we selected which was basically right down the silky soft
grooming ridge, just to the right of the Lift line, looking down.

We found this quite amazing that not even a speck of icy could
be found. It was surrealistically like Skiing very fine Beach Sand,
like the very finest small almost dust-like Beach Sand, even as we
stood right next to a huge icy looking big bump, not so much as
single ice cube on the run itself. Perhaps there may have been on
other descent lines on Expo, but not where we were.

For this discussion then, Expo represents "Un-Groomed" at least for
yesterday and today...

Moving on to the "Groomed", this fine Sand-Like characteristic of the
Snow Surfaces was universally covering the primary descents. This
Summit View shows these surfaces and they continued on as far as
you went for about 97% of every Groomed Trail.

Yesterday we wrote about the "very close to perfect every day" P'tit Bonheur
getting the benefit of this very fine sand-like snow being blown over the
summit to settle there. This picture shows that in the foreground.

This masterpiece of beautifully brilliant simplicity, was wall-to-wall
immaculate. Period. Not a mark, not a glitch, fast or slow, up or down.
We call this a "Benchmark" trail and yesterday it was exactly that.
Carving nirvana for all skill levels, a Cruisers Delight, a Slalom Turn Rippers
Joy, hook up and go all day long.

On the Steeper Trails... Conditions Caveat:

There was the odd very firm, but still snow, windblown slick portion that
we only found on a couple of very wind exposed, short zones such as the
very top few metres of Kandahar for example. Once you got past those
short zones, the runs themselves seemed excellent to us, however it
is fair to point out that we have Sharp Edges, so our experience may
be directly related to the tune of our gear.

If you do not have tuned edges on your Skis/Board, you may find
some of the Steeper, Windblown sectors are harder to keep control
over, but None-the-less, we still found them to be largely just very
densely packed, compressed Snow.

Tremblant Park Sample News...

Of course, the South Adrenaline Park with it's XXXL jumps will get most of the
attention being Open today, but the North Park on Rope Tow, just under the
Lowell Thomas Triple Chair was completely re-done over the last couple of
days, so as a sample, here are a "Before" and "After"....

Before: Thursday....

There is less contrast in the flat light of the moment in this yesterday shot,
but the point is, the Family Friendly North Park is completely done, finished,
Open and also features a Serpentine Shaped, High Banked, Contour Run in the
top sector, and it all looks in great shape.

North Park, Rope Tow, Utility Feature:

You Like to play in the parks, but you want to keep your edges sharp
to Ski/Board the Mountain too...

We are very pleased to see the North Park Boxes, Tables etc., all
seem to be covered with sheets of High Density Polyethylene so
North Park Users are not grinding metal on metal, peeling off
Ski/Board edge sharpness instantly.

We like this because it allows far superior Ski/Board edge
retention than Metal on Metal, so ripping around the rest of the Mountain
can still be High Performance Fun.

Remember Kidz... If you run your Metal Ski/Board edges on Metal Park Modules...
yer not gonna have much edge left for carving grip anywhere else.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

Re: 1/26/13 Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski, late night edition @ 1:00 A.M.

Today started out considerably cooler than weather predictions.

The Stable Arctic Air Mass that's been overhead for 4 days or so
is a little too stable, so stable that it seems reluctant to move off.

For those who have been here all this week though, there was a perceptible
increase in the temps which was most apparent to us in fingers and toes that
were not effected as quickly today, as they had been up to yesterday.

It was the first day in a long while that we did not see any snowmaking,
however, Mother Nature had some ideas of her own on that, so there
was Snow in the air. Accumulations were not all that significant, but
any amount of fresh is always welcome, if only for the additional
"Winter" ambience.

If you think this one's Snow-fuzzy, you should have seen it before we
burned up the Contrast, Highlights, and Definition, but the real point, and
the reason we did that, is to maximize the Snow Surface detail rather than
the snow in the air.

The "Big Bump" snowmaking deposits are usually left for a day or
two, to "dry out" before being Groomed into the base. We skied
them yesterday and found them to be quite dry, an almost
"Beach Sand" consistency which was surprisingly easy due to
the extra resistance to forward motion of the very cold snow.

Todays warmer temps were just the tipping point needed to
restore a very natural glide factor back into conditions. That was
very noticeable on lower Beauchemin where yesterday you had to
skate the plateau's, but today, speed was a whole lot easier to
sustain and a few quick pushes allowed you to carry great speed
in those same areas.

We're positive the Snowboard people would have appreciated that.
Today, a couple of board pumps and away you go, yesterday we saw
people taking a foot out to propel themselves.

While the Snowy sort of Cloudy created a bit of a tone on tone, black
and white, monochromatic look, there was a ton of neat colour in
the crowd. We think the Ski Fashion for this season is fresh and cheerful!

A really nice day with few glitches, a moderate crowd and easier
Winter temps.

More in the morning! See ya' then!
