2/17/13 Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Mid-Night, Apres Ski Edit...

The cooler overnight last night further served to dry
surfaces out beyond what they had done yesterday.

That made them wicked fast today. On top of that, there were fewer
in attendance, so we never really waited for more than moments for a
lift.

Tomorrow is supposed to be slightly warmer, that would be nice..
daytime high of -8C and under cloudless pure sun.

The Official Preliminary Snow Report shows the same 93(*) Open
trails for tomorrow. What we're interested in at this point is if there
will be any new additions to the Groomed inventory. The morning
confirmations will clarify.

Everything Groomed is very fine, better each passing day.

It's not hard to see the knife-edge, tight radius grip these surfaces
can hold. Anyone complaining about Groomed needs a tune-up,
because these surfaces are very responsive.

T360 team members in attendance reported runs like Taschereau being in
arguably the best shape of the season, while Algonquin was found to be
chopped up and difficult to handle with an "Experts Only" type sign posted
at the trail entrance.

Pay attention to these posted warnings because this is exactly when a green
run can become a black run.

Glitches??? there are a few... the top 20 metres of Beauchemin off the
Summit are by most opinions, icy. Experts traverse the whole section in
about 3 or 4 turns, while beginners trying to snowplow on it were skidding
with very little control and looks of extreme concern on their faces.

This is one example, there are a handful of other's we're told, but we
never found 'em.

The Skiing and Boarding will continue to be an extension of yesterday's
surprisingly fine conditions. We felt those were created by the Friday
overnight sudden drop in temp's that seem to have magically
created light, dry powder snow from out of the thicker, damp
heavy snow that had fallen between Thursday and Friday evening
at much closer to the freezing mark.

Our Hypothesis is... Cryodesiccation, Better known as...
"Freeze Drying". What we think happened is the rapid temperature drop
over a short period of time in combination with other factors including
the change in barometric pressure, freeze dried the thick snow, taking out
the dampness and rendering a very light, dust-like powdery result.

This Pic. below is the best example we have of that net result, very
fine, light powder that has minimal internal moisture and almost
zero forward resistance to Skis or Board on the Open terrain.

Bottom line on yesterday's conditions was that the thick heaviness that
we might have expected to have carried over from Friday at last run,
simply vanished overnight to become quite close to ideal powder.

Today should be a photocopy of those same great conditions but
with the enhancement of the efforts of Mountain Crews
who will have pulled another all-nighter to further extend the scope
of the Groomed terrain.

We like to experiment with 'Special Effects" that occur naturally
within the views you can find every day at Tremblant, so when
we came up the Duncan Quad with these guy's from the Toronto area,
it was a great opportunity to try these shots across the reflective lens's
with the snow white Summit trees in the background. Thanks Guys!

Today's Weather...
-23C under a Sunny Sky makes for a crisp winter morning,
however the temp's will rise fairly rapidly to a daytime high of
-11C or so, at South Base level.

The "kicker" in today's weather will be the wind. Currently listed
at "Zero" from the South, it's forecast to become quite blustery
at up to 30 KMPH which makes it "strong" and from the Nor-West,
or coming up the Mountain on Nansen, then crossing the Summit
towards Duncan.

Maximizing comfort will rely on effective garment seals and overlaps
to keep cooling forces from reducing inner heat.

A Beautiful Winter Day With All The Tremblant
Panoramas You Love...
....not to mention fabulous Skiing/Boarding!

Today's "Trail Of Interest" is Algonquin. This beautiful
cruising run is listed as "Open" on today's list, but the "Groomed"
tick column is absent and it is listed on the Official Snow Report
as "Natural", so we're sending a T360 Team Member
over there first thing to report on it's condition. Will advise ASAP.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
