...and go to Tremblant Immediately !!!!!

There's a lot of... a ton of... new snow...!!! So much, it was a bit
overwhelming and thick for beginners, and considering it takes
a bit of muscle, even experts may have been feeling it too...

There were times during the day where it let up for a few
moments, but the snow was piling up quite quickly and
it was very easy to find this trail side, drift-in feature,
just off to the right side of Marie-Claude Asselin, Bas, Lower.

It was snowing this hard, solidly for the last 2 plus hours before "Last Run"
and it's still snowing this hard 8 Hours Later!!!!

50(*) Open trails on 2 Sides(North, Soleil), of Tremblant as the Mountain
prepares for a major Winter Snow Storm Warning.

It's a good thing there's Ton's of great Skiing/Boarding in todays
(so far)Open Terrain on the North and Soleil...

We say "So Far" above as it may be a day where the Open trail list
is revised on the fly. Last night's preliminary Official Snow Report
for this morning showed 77 Trails open, so with such a big difference
in the overnight numbers, we're wondering if it's a possibility. Typically,
the closure of an entire sector for safety is a wind related decision,
so if turns out to be less velocity than expected could we see a change?

In the mean-time, traditional Tremblant favourites like Duncan will
be hosting Skiers/Boarders in great shape. This Pic. below was
taken over the main Summit pitch of Duncan at "Last Run". As you
can see, the carving quality of the surface there is very fine.

Currently, it's an easy -6 C under overcast sky's with a moderate
East wind... and, the snow has already started...

Evidently the Mountain Operations Group have sufficient information
to warrant closing the whole South Side, so there will have to be a
large logistical plan involving shuttles to get Skiers/Boarders back
and forth.

What we can tell you for a fact is... everything that's open, is excellent.

It was excellent yesterday and it will be the same, if not better, today.

The open trail reduction has nothing to do with Trail conditions, only safety.

Yesterday, everything we skied on Soleil was close to perfect.
If you've got recently tuned gear, you'd think so too.

It will be just as good, if not better, today. The accumulation rate of the new
snow could actually mean some really fantastic natural/drifted conditions.

One of the most interesting aspects of the recent Fresh Snow events
at Tremblant has been the light, dryness of new fallen snow, despite
temp's as close to freezing as we're forecasted to have today at -1C.

Even though the temp's were similar during those previous Snow events
there was remarkably little moisture content, what most people might
think of as dampness that makes good, packable "Snowball" snow.
Instead, what we got then was fluffy and dry powder. We think this
has everything to do with the substantially lower temperature of the
winds aloft. Snow descending with that dryness must be coming down
through consistent, cool air masses to remain so moisture free.

We're looking forward to that being the case all day again and we'll get
back to you in Apres Ski with all the details. So far... looking out
the window here in St.Jovite, that's what we've got today as well.

Ski/Board Utility Note: Waxing or coating Skis or Boards with
product rated for "Warm" snow conditions will be a definite asset
over the next few days. When you look at the wax temp ranges, you'll
find that there are say, zero to -7 C "Warm" range, compared to -7 C to
-17 C, or lower, so obviously at these forecasted -1's, -2's to Zero and +1's
over the next 4 or 5 days, the "warm" range waxes will help facilitate
glide on all surfaces.

We would also like to point out that well waxed Skis are more
predictable through the kind of mixed surface depths you'll encounter
durring and after rapid snow accumulations. Surfaces get "Cut Up" with
tracks crossing tracks, so when glide is better, especially through the tip
area of Skis, we feel there's less drag impact when you cross through
those mixed up, tracked up, variable depth zones.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
