4/13/13 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

50(*) Open Trails on the South and North Sectors of Tremblant.

Snow, Snow, Snow.... April 13th.

That's not a sentence you can make every year and for dedicated
Tremblant Fans, the very fact that you can say that now is compelling
reason to abandon whatever other plans there might be and head
for the slopes!

Yesterday's challenging photographic environment meant real excitement
on the Skiing/Boarding side of things, so we were very happy to have
such a big problem considering the benefits of too much snow.

No doubt, there were some small icy bits underneath, but after the
preceding week of sunny and warm, that was a predictable situation
when the weather returned to sub-zero.

The new snow has gone a long way to covering up a lot, but the wind
that brought the snow has also caused some very unusual distribution,
as well as Lift system safety closures and the loss of use of the whole
South side as a consequence. We never saw that as a problem though,
because with so much new snow on the North to explore, there were so
many great descent lines we could not cover them all anyway.

Just one of those situations where making the best of things on the open
terrain was nothing less than excellent skiing to begin with, so for us,
very easy to adapt to.

Summit Wind and Sideways Snow. Very impressive Mother Nature
display of raw power as the wind going through the Com. Tower behind
the Soleil lift was howling like a lonely Wolf.

In the Mean-time Experts and confident Intermediates were having a very
interesting and fun day of exploration that in many cases presented new
conditions every run. Things in some areas were filling in very quickly.
The opened portion of Banzai shown below is a great example.

"After The Dust Has Settled" ... an expression used to describe review
after a complex or busy event has taken place.

In our case ... "After The Snow Has Settled". We won't know how
all the new snow has settled, particularly on the South, until we can get
on the slopes. With a wind component so strong as yesterdays that
caused the South Side closure, there's just no way to precisely forecast
the patterns of snow deposits that could have taken place.

But... considering that the South was not directly facing the wind, there
may be some exceptional drifting on that side and we're looking forward to
exploring over there as soon as we can get to it. We'll get back to you on that
if you can't be here to check it out yourself.

The other thing is, we don't have any idea of how the Grooming will have
shaped things either. It should be magnificent in places of deeper snow
deposit, but on the windblown sections, there are a lot of wild card factors
that are difficult to anticipate.

Bottom line... we're thrilled to be able to have any of these conditions
on April 13th and we are ecstatically happy to be out in them to find
all the sweet spots we know will be there.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
