T360 Apres Ski, Midnight Edit...

It's a great night for Snowmaking!

... The Mountain got a little bit whiter looking today after 2 or so inches
of fresh snow that's come and stayed due to the drop in temps.

All the Open Terrain is in better shape today due to not only the new natural,
but additional blown snow as well as more grooming and Mountain Traffic
that helps to render finer particle sizes.

Sorry for the soft focus, but look at the shred factor that this pic
highlights very well, not to mention the snow in the air...

Until there's either enough new natural, or enough blown snow accumulated
to open new terrain, we'll be content with incremental daily improvements
on the existing runs.

Sure, everyone would like to have more, and the conditions are very early
season, but we have not seen anything significant in the way of hazards
on the Open Terrain, so we're very grateful for the quality of the chosen few
that are open.

Tomorrow's weather... Partially Sunny, High Temp @ -9, Base level,
gusty winds.

You'll need to bundle up, but the views and the skiing/boarding will be
very fine and a lot more interesting than the 4 walls inside any Gym.

Get out if you can...

6(*) Open Trails on the freshly snowed on Slopes of Tremblant.

Same 3 basic descent paths, Upper Beauchemin, P'tit Bonheur
and Beauvallon to Johannsen.

We feel there will be more evenness in both the South and North
surfaces today with the over-night drop in temps that have us at -5C
at South Base levels this morning. Most of the slightly lumpy, deeper
softness that could be found on Beauvallon should be gone, so
consistency is more likely to be found on all descents.

about 100 meters above the Beauvallon, Nansen, P'tit Bonheur intersection.

If you want "Winter", it's here right now at Tremblant.

Obviously, not the greatest conditions for photography, grey light
a fair amount of snow in the air, a lot of cloud in the air, but on the
surfaces Mountain Crews have made snow on, you can Ski/Board on
a very smooth and level top coat of groomed corduroy.

Unfortunately, the wet weather of last weekend took away snow in
the areas that are next on the list for opening. Trails like Rope Tow,
beside the Summit end of the Lowell Thomas triple chair, are going to
need quite a bit more snow before they can come on-line. Crews have
deployed snowmaking equipment all over these development sectors,
it's just going to take a while to fill them in. We need Mother Nature to
help out in a big way, and she has, at least in the temperature part, as it's
forecast to stay below freezing except for a couple of hours on Tuesday,
when it might burp up above by a degree or two, for at least the next two weeks.

That means at least Snowmaking can go on at the fastest pace possible, and
with what-ever Mo.Nature decides to add in, we'll see steady progress from
this point forward.

This will look better today, and every day from now on, but there's
no question we're quite a ways behind last years record setting Opening
Day/Weekend level that will probably be a benchmark of ideal, for
many seasons.

On the other hand...

Screaming muscles that have not been carving for a whole summer
tell a different story. The amount of Open terrain at Tremblant is
sufficient to have a great day of exercise and practice. You can easily
turn your legs into Jello by the end of the day because on the bright
side of things, having a top-to-bottom descent path as we do on the South
is a very rare Seasons Opening treat. Laps off the Gondola can toast those
old leg muscles today, exactly the same as any other winter day, it's
just that you don't yet have the variety that comes with the mature season.

So then, one of the big values of getting out now is the practice.

There is every reason to think that P'tit Bonheur will continue to be the very
finest single run on the Mountain. We could have spent all day lapping there,
it was like Ski-Candy, each run a sweet experience of carving consistency.

The snow surface Quality is a very spreadable, soft snow.

Easy to Edge, easy to Brake, easy to Steer.

Plenty of speed on all surfaces, but one big difference is the visual
background....

Compare the differences below:

1) North, P'tit Bonheur

In the case of the two above, the snow on Beauvallon was considerably faster
for some reason.

Lower Beauvallon actually had the fastest snow on the Mountain.

From the I.T. Dept. ...

Tremblant.ca has re-configured the presentation of the web-available info.
The Downloadable PDF Trail and Grooming report does not appear to be
available and the new Official Open Trail List has a new design with selectable
"Filters" for Green, Blue, and Black difficulty levels, lifts and parks.

We loved that PDF, it was a comprehensive single page, and very good looking,
but evidently, internal processes have changed, so for the archival record from
this point on, we'll make do with a copy of the list as presented.

6(*) Open Trails on the Official List today.

Tremblant is proud to welcome you to its 75th ski season.
6 trails spread over 3 main routes will be offered. The Beauvallon
top and bottom trail will be in progressive opening. For extreme
skiers and snowboarders, 3 units will be available near the Lowell
Thomas chair. Tremblant wishes you a happy 75th winter season
with lots of fun and snow!

Tremblant is off to a solid start for the winter of 2013/14.

While we do not have the big acreage that opened last year,
the Top-To-Bottom on the South is a huge bonus, so comparatively
speaking, this seasons opening is still way above average.

Regardless of the quantity of Open Terrain, the value of early season
training can never be diminished. Every turn you do is part of a very healthy
pursuit of skills and fitness and as such, has great worth on a personal
level.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
