Conditions 4/06/09

43 Officially open trails this morning, most of which are on
the North Side.

We start out at just below freezing, with a projected high temp
at 4C or so, under overcast skies, but it is not raining at this
point and there is almost no wind at all on the South Side base,
so it is a very calm, peaceful, morning ambiance.

We have heard some "discussion" about the "Open Trail Count”
around the Mountain and in the lift zones. Some people are
wondering how this number is arrived at, and or why there
seems to be a difference when they actually get on the Mountain.

It is our understanding that the open trail count is a number that
is officially published as determined by the Ski Patrol who are
responsible for the safety of all users of the Mountain.

There are trail names included in the count that are both the big
main runs, the smaller, sometimes narrower or shorter secondary
runs and the runs that connect all of the above.

One must keep in mind that all the trail/run names are basically
"Addresses" to the Ski Patrol, so that in the event of a need for
assistance, Patrollers can pin-point exactly where they need to
be for the quickest possible response.

Bottom line here is that the Official Open Trail Count can not always
be thought of as only the big main runs.

Tremblant has a total of 94 Official Trails which is almost 100, so with
43 Trails open today, using very basic math, we could say that any
given number of Officially open trails, compared to the Total, is
approximately the PERCENTAGE of open terrain.

Of course this is not exact, but it is close enough to see that we have
about 40 to 50 percent of open terrain.

Spring conditions are highly variable and the best thing to do is to just
get out and explore the open areas to find conditions that suit your own
skills, abilities and preferences. The open Trail Count is subject to
adjustment during the day, so as you cruise around keep your eyes
open for changes.

It is our opinion that considering all the weather factors Mother Nature
has presented us with this season, Tremblant Mountain Crews have
done a great job of extending both the life and quality of lots of great terrain.

The officially open terrain is in remarkably fine shape and we are very
thankful that we have as much as we do.

As usual, Summit temps are colder than Base, so the farther up the Mountain you go, more "Winter Like" conditions will be found.

Excellent powder on the mountain after lunch today. Did a few runs down Beauchemin and Sissy Schuss, which were both in great condition. More snow forecast tonight so really looking forward to tomorrow!
