T360 Apres Ski Edit, under construct @ 5:45 P.M.
It was a fair bit different than most expected. There was something in the air,
Humidity perhaps, but whatever it was it made the temp’s seem colder, and
quite noticeably so.
Cruisin’ Kandahar required aggressive Edging in order to retain grip
and while there did not appear to be outright Ice, there was a very firm
base underfoot that could cause loss of traction so Speed Control
was an absolute necessity.

Considering we’ve been coping with low -20’s C for past weeks, what we’ve
had over the last couple of days has seemed almost balmy, but not today.
It just felt Cold, hands and feet noticed, gaps around helmet and goggles
noticed it… even though the winds were light(the Summit actually had dead
calm periods), with your “Airspeed”, cruising on the Slopes you definitely
noticed it.
The Skiing was still quite fine, but we would say that whatever it was
making things feel cooler, also added a small friction on the surfaces.
Same great Smoothness, just not quite the same Glide.
Compared to yesterday the top surface layers have slightly more
resistance to forward momentum. On steeper runs this is an asset
as controlling gravity is easier, although that is not to say that on the
steepest pitches, like our Pic.Sample above on Upper Kandahar Haut,
that gravity can be ignored… Things are still plenty Fast, it’s more of
a subtle difference that if you Skied yesterday, you’d notice today.
While most of the Tourist Type Postcards feature only the very Sunniest
conditions imaginable, real life has it’s Beautifully Wintery Grey days too
and this sample below intentionally focuses on the background to bring out the
absolutely stunning presence of the Full Colour, Black ’n White world
of the forest that surrounds and frames the colourful humans that
pass by.
Most of us are so busy staring at the bright gear being worn that we fail to
even see the Forest because of so many Trees, but by focusing on them as
the primary element in this pic., their Awesome presence becomes immediately
apparent.
Imagine spending all day, completely wrapped up within this Natural
Magnificence and you have Tremblant Today.
Tremblant Mountain Utility Notes:
We had a number of questions about Soleil Sector being
off-line and from what we understand, not officially, but
from well informed sources such as the “?” Info. Crews…
The Soleil Quad had a Part Problem and a new part was located
close enough that someone was able to drive there to pick it up
and that the part will be installed during the Night-Shift.
Testing could take a while in the Morning, but should be done
Mid-Day at some point, so hopefully that Sector will be back
on line after lunch maybe ??? tomorrow ?????

77(*) Open Trails on 3 Sides of Tremblant as Soleil Sector is Off-Line.
Spectacular Tremblant Days and Conditions.
Weather Notes:
Mostly Sunny Yesterday, turning to overcast Today with a Morning -10 C,
rising up another degree or two by mid-day and there are some random
snowflakes falling right now with a forecast calling for “Scattered Flurries”.
The winds are light and from the Nor-East, so more-or-less coming up the
Mountain over Beauchemin and crossing towards McCulloch.
Get Ready For Great!
…not only this run, but every run you‘ve got Muscle for!
We’re really enjoying what feels like very mild wither temps after
the recent cool spells of January.
The Skiing/Boarding are Heavenly. Virtually Seamless from Top-to-Bottom,
Side-to-Side, Tremblant is covered in a mantel of almost flawless
White Winter Wonderful, Satin Smooth ’n Swift Snow.
Anytime you can include a report pic that shows these conditions
yesterday at “Last Run” on Nansen, you’ve got a great day on your hands
and furthermore, with the stable long term weather outlook, more great
days to look forward to as well.
You can Close your eyes and “Visualize”, but the best thing to do is
Open your eyes while you’re here and see and experience it for yourself
because words and pictures notwithstanding, it’s very difficult to convey
how the Beautiful Natural Surroundings and the remarkable Alpine Snow
Sports Performance Surfaces combine to produce the overall Tremblant
Experience right now.
If we had to choose one concept to focus in on in a conversation we
might say that at this moment, Conditions on the Open Terrain are
very close to "Ideal".
To be fair, our draft for today was undertaken prior to the posting
of the Official Open Trail Data for today, so we were not aware at the
time that Soleil Sector would be off-line. Obviously, “Ideal” in terms
of the very biggest picture possible, would include 100% Open Terrain
availability, so with that said our “Ideal” reference is applied to
what is Officially Open.
You don’t need to wonder why the Opened, Groomed Surfaces are so
superb, when less than 2 or 3 metre’s Trail Side, the intimate scenes
Mother Nature presents are breathtaking in their simple, overwhelming
beauty of abundant Winter Snow.
These are the days we refer to when we talk of “The Fullness of the Mature Season”.
