T360 Apres Ski Season, Apres Ski.
Yup It’s the end of the scheduled season...but...
The very recently announced Bonus Weekend of April 18/19
will be greatly anticipated by those who can attend, so until then...
Today was an Extraordinary way to wrap up the Record Setting
Super Durable Winter Season of 2014/15!
To Begin with... It was just one of those rare days of Glorious Sunshine
and Never-Ending, Magnificent, Tremblant Views!
People were Flipping Out all over #Tremblant!
A Very Nice Full Inverted, Forward Flip!

The Versant Nord, North Side Summit Sector Park had a constant stream of
enthusiastic participants. The Skill Levels demonstrated while we were there
for a few minutes began with “Expert” and the nicely performed Forward
Inverted Flip above and this Tall Air Jump below. We’ve got a bunch more
from the North Park and we’ll post them as processing time permits.

Then, they were giving “Two Thumbs Up”!
The “Two Thumbs Up” of the person below were completely spontaneous
and we were focusing on the view down the Mountain for this shot’s set up
so we did not realize the “Positive Feedback” was even there until Apres Ski
Pic. processing. We love to find these surprise, happy gestures as they
give us a supportive sense for our own positive experience in sharing the
Tremblant Ski/Board story du Jour.

Excellent Conditions were enjoyed on both Open South, North Sectors
and standing at the shared top entrances of Nansen and P’tit Bonheur
presented a difficult choice! Which “Excellent” do you go with?

Here are Nord, North side samples from Rigodon. Leading down
to the base of the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair, Rigodon is inclined
away from the Suns direct rays and it held very nicely shred-able
conditions all day.

Below: In another instance of expressions of spontaneous joy...
As Amateur photographers, it’s always fun to discover elements
you had no idea existed when you took the shot to begin with.
In this case below, we were focused on the Shred/Carve quality
of the Spring Snow for Boarders on Rigodon, so this Boarders
Wide Smile that came with the shot is ample evidence of the
enjoyment these extraordinary conditions were bringing to
Tremblant Board Guests today.
(This shot was not staged, set-up, or otherwise. It is a pure random
pic. that just happened to capture the expression of happiness from
nothing other than the pure enjoyment of the moment. We do not
know the person, and they may never realize this pic. exists.)

as both Duncan and Lowell Thomas Summit sectors come into view.

Considering that South Base Temp’s over Saturday night got down to a degree
either side of Zero C, depending on whose thermometer you were looking at...
basically the whole Mountain gently re-froze at the cooler elevations of the
Trail Network, so the most ideal conditions were just after mid-morning when
things were not too soft and not too froze. Due to the differences in the various
sectors facing the sun as it passed overhead either directly or indirectly, the
sweet spots of ideal were in motion as well, so it was possible to precede the
heat induced very soft surfaces by simply either Skiing the Tree or Mountain
Shadowed Trail Sides until the Sun’s full effect became dominant.
This Heat Induced softness was the biggest difference between Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday’s far cooler Summit High of -1C facilitated the retention of much more
Winter-Like surfaces all day, whereas by Sunday afternoon, as the temp’s at the
Summit peaked at +12C, pretty much everything had water suction drag that
inhibited speed on all descents.
That was not necessarily a bad thing though and Expo, pictured above and immediately
below was Super Soft and for Experts with the Skill Sets, very easy and forgiving Mogul
Skiing that was made even easier by the wet braking effect you could rely on to offset
gravity.

Even with the very soft top layers, the Base remains thoroughly Solid and very
stable. The lack of significant Bare or Brown Spots in any of our photography is
great evidence of the integrity of this mantle of Wall-to-wall coverage and furthermore,
looking to either side of Expo in the full height shot above, you can clearly see
that even at bottom of the North Side of the Mountain, there is still full and complete
Snow in the bush virtually anywhere you look. Of course, that could change to an
unknown degree, depending on weather, over the next several days.
It took a while Apres Ski, to put this into perspective. Some Seasons, there might
be anywhere between a couple of weeks to a month of these very common daily
Spring temp. cycles and it’s very easy to adapt to Skiing steeper pitches when there’s
naturally higher moisture caused friction, but this season it was mostly “Winter” up to
yesterday and really soft “Spring” by Noon on closing day, i.e., today, so the “Adapt”
phase this Season was about an Hour, not a more Seasonably normal Week or Month.
Perhaps the best way to illustrate the very short Spring Adaption Phase is with the
following two Pic’s that are taken on the North Side, within about 35 Vertical Metres
of one another.
The first one is Saturday, and the Snow is pure, wind shaped, dry as a desert bone,
“Winter”...

very moisture laden, mashed potatoes “Spring” ...

What a difference a day can make.
Please Note: April 12th, 2015 Apres Ski is under Progressive, Multi-Day Assembly...
So Stop back whenever you can, Thanks!
Draft/Preliminary Content for 4/18/15
Weather/Condition Notes:
For Those Looking Forward To The April 18/19 Bonus Weekend...
As far as retaining Alpine Winter Snow Sports Trail Surfaces for the April 18/19
Bonus Weekend, we are still very confident that the Groomed Trail Base, especially
on more shaded North and Cooler Upper Mountain Levels, should have more than
enough reserve to maintain coverage. It’s difficult to speculate on the exact effects
that the Weather may have as the forecast includes 4 full days of Sun, Wind, Daytime
High’s of 15 C/60 F as well as a day of rain too, so the Trail-side look could be quite a
bit different, particularly on the Lower South for sure.
We are not sure exactly how conditions are going to be because Weather Forecasting
Models could/may/are inaccurate that far in advance and we do not know which Trails
may or may not be on the Grooming List. The Tremblant.ca Official Snow Report
is showing all trails currently Closed and there are no Grooming Icons being displayed.
One very important factor, and a positive one for Trail Snow retention, is the near or
below zero C overnights which indicates temp’s should be quite nicely below zero at
cooler Mountain elevations. This factor alone means there is a break in the daily
Thermal cycles that offsets the heat of day with Cool of night, thereby arresting the
thaw and creating resistance to thaw the morning after.
