T360 Middle of the Night Shift, Global Tremblant Apres Ski...

Good Night California!

Good Morning GMT!

First, The General News...

This pic actually tells you almost all you need to know about #Tremblant right now...

Gorgeous!

The Performance on all Skill Level Groomed Terrain was very dependable.
There was one small icy patch we found, just below the mid-level plateau
crest, adjacent to the Edge Sector Entrance on Beauchemin, for about
15/20 metres.

There may have been others in similar crest locations, but we did not notice
or run into any others in our Groomed Trail experience today.

Otherwise, it was all traction with great action!

The Devils River Case Study we had hoped to do was not possible because
the Trail was “Fermee”, “Closed”, even though it was listed as Open at the
Duncan Quad Base Trail Posting Data, as wells on the Official Open Trails List.

Both Open Indicators, at the Duncan Quad Base(above), and on the Web Site
showed Devils River as Un-Groomed, so we wonder if there may have been
unanticipated and/or last minute safety issues. We feel there must have been
a legitimate reason for the data conflict, as Crews are generally quite accurate
with basic trail data.

We will try for Devils River tomorrow again and we hope to see it on-line
as it looks excellent from the vantage point of the closed upper entrance.

A Great Snowy Day On Great Snowy Surfaces!

Excellent Groomed Skiing/Boarding!

(Un-Groomed discussed below)

----------------------- 8:54 A.M Orig. Post --------------------

56(*) Open Trails on South, North and Soleil Sectors at #Tremblant.

Here’s the little “Pop” in the upwards numbers, to 56(from yesterday’s 48(*)),
Open Trails we’ve been expecting for a few days.

Our basic feeling was that there’s just way too much snow around Tremblant
to not see this increase, however we understand Mountain Crews reserve Openings
for adequate preparations in either/or Snowmaking or Grooming so that conditions
are consistent with their goals for initial quality, and that takes time.

We’re going to take an all day “Before/After”, “Case Study” look at the one Trail
we’ve been anxiously anticipating out of the group....

Versant Nord, the North Side’s “Devils River”.

Devils River is an interesting Case Study because over time there have been
two different approaches to it’s Opening that have both been very well received
by it’s large group of Fans. Sometimes this Trail is Opened fully Groomed, and
other times it’s Opened in a raw, un-groomed format. Each of these initial
presentations is appreciated by Skiers/Boarders with different tastes.

If you’re interested in the Historical Perspective, you can go to the “General
Tremblant Discussion” section of theses Forums and scroll down to the Topic
“Grooming on Devils River and Cossak” for the debate on this exact subject
in the winter of 2010/2011.

We were very grateful to our Forum Member “Freshtracks” for raising the subject
because it was an excellent opportunity to examine both the processes and the
results of the two different ways this trail is opened, and an insight into how
other Trail Openings may be considered.

Evidently, that debate was keenly followed as the page view numbers there
as of this morning are 2,735. Wow, we had not looked at that in quite a while,
so a bit surprising to see the interest there. Anyway, that season, Devils River
was left in Raw form.

In anticipation though, we’ve note that the Snowmaking Icons have been active
on Devils River for around a week or more now, so even in Raw form, with all the
natural snow added, there should be a TON of snow over the length of Devils River.

As there are no “Grooming” icons on today’s Official Trail Data, it seems as though
this seasons start is in raw form, so we’ll go there and confirm the “Lay Of The Land”.
Lord Willing, We’ll get back to you on that.

Conditions Notes:

We anticipate Excellent Groomed Trail Conditions on All Skill Level Rated Terrain.

On Un-Groomed, there are any number of “Wild Card” scenario’s and there
are Natural Hazards of rock and wood and misc. debris that must be navigated
using the upmost caution. As per hand posted signage: “Experts Only” please.

We are super/happy to see “Sissy Schuss” listed with Snowmaking Icons.
This 1948 Classic Tremblant Trail is great in all forms, but we think it
truly comes alive as one of the most naturally rhythmic descents on
Planet Earth when it is developed to “Wall-To-Wall” Snow White Winter Smooth
Groomed. That’s just a personal opinion though, but for sure, filled in, and
Groomed in, the natural hazards that can effect Ski/Board Bases, get reduced
to almost Zero.
