3/20/16 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit @ 11:45 P.M.

First, A Message of Support For The Tremblant Ski Patrol...

These are the Skilled People that attend at any accident scene
to help stabilize you prior to preparing you for transport to
the nearest or best Mountain Departure point and whatever
additional Professional Medical Attention you need.

Re: Above:
Two of the most practical things you can do to help the Ski Patrol are to
1) Adhere to, and cause all your Friends to adhere to, the Official Ski/Board
Mountain Conduct Code as Endorsed and Enforced By the Ski Patrol.
2) Select Terrain Difficulty Ratings, i.e., Green/Beginner, Blue/Intermediate,
Black/Expert, realistically. Our observations indicate that about 80% of Accidents
and/or Conditions Complaints are the result of Insufficient Skills Required
where those Incidents occur. We See “I Dare You”-“Bravado” as a critical
Peer Group error causing bodily harm.

Secondly, what a classic gorgeous day!

The Snow at the Summit was a Crystalline Particle of mixed size, and it
was “Silky” in feel for about 150 Vertical Feet, down to the final section
of La Crete where it intersects with Trail # 1, Bon Vivant(coming from the Edge Peak)

Easy Winter Into Spring Day as long as you got good Edge...
Get it?

Today Was Exactly The “Excellent” We’d Been Looking For!

At this point, barely below the Summit, the snow became “Spring” snow
with just a wee bit of softness in the top layer that ultimately became about
10 Cm’s deep. That was just enough to generate all the "Excellent”
you could handle in the form of exceptional Lateral Carving Grip(see tracks below).

More Tomorrow Morning, but the type of Carving Energy you can see
made the “S” Shape Tracks in the Pic. Above was basically available over
about 90% of all the Groomed Open Terrain.

The Carving was Joyfully Responsive with the Soft, but not Too Soft
top layers that were about 10 Cm’s deep, deep enough to really
“Lean On”, deep enough to really “Stand Sideways On”. Fabulous,
very fine traction with no end from Summit to Base.

Tomorrow’s weather starts out at -9 C, and rises quickly to Zero by Noon.
There is Sun in the forecast ’til about 3:00 P.M., but with the “Partially
Cloudy” Icons, there’s a possibility it could go more Overcast or more Sunny.
Another Opportunity for Mother Nature to fool us all... again.

The Open Groomed Surfaces may be Very Firm to somewhat Icy, but we
will not know for sure until the Lifts begin to turn.

No Doubt, Tuned Edges will be your very best friends all day, every day
for the foreseeable future.

66(*) Open Trails on the Winter White Slopes Of #Tremblant.

First Official Day Of Spring!

Very Fine Technical Skiing On Smooth Groomed Surfaces
that have limited depth in loose snow top layers, but so far...
Virtually Wall-To-Wall Winter Level Coverage.

Smooth Control Inputs are essential to maintain reliable grip through all
phases of turning dynamics. Any Jerky, Sudden, Abrupt or Harshly applied
force almost immediately gets you loss of Grip.

That’s the “Technical” side of the Skills required to Ski with Optimal Control.
We are hopeful that last nights Grooming Schedule has generated some
additional depth in the loose top layers of Carve-able Snow. We do not think
the Base could be much more stable or solid than it is right now, so the
refinement that will enhance the versatility can be best realized with more
top layer depth.

There are two “Wild Cards” in today’s scenario though....

Wild card # 1) ... The Temp’s at South Resort Base Level may Reach Zero C,
so with the Solar Energy Beaming Down... there will no doubt be some
thermally generated softness.

Wild Card # 2) ... There’s a very Low Wind Speed Component in the forecast.
Anyone who was in attendance yesterday will confirm the effects of “Air Cooling”
as the wind was a very steady presence that was strong enough to shape
“Sand Waves” into some of the direct facing crests. With little or no “Air Cooling”
today, there may be an intensification of the Solar Energy Effects.

Wild Card # 2, Little or No Wind, if it stays that way... will considerably enhance
the “User Friendly” qualities of both Comfort and Performance Factors, so we
look forward to seeing if there’s any difference between the Base and Summit
wind as the day progresses.

Depending on the Net Effects of Temp’s and Lack of Winds...

Today May Have That Overall Surface Excellence We Were Looking For Yesterday,
but it will probably come from Softening, not just the depth of loose snow, and...
it may likely happen around Lunch Hour, on into the Afternoon.

"Tricks Of The Trade" For “Easy”...

This Pic. below illustrates the advantage of using the soft snow that tends to build
up on Trail Edges for either Very Short Radius or Parallel Turns, if you can do them,
and/or, to use as the outboard extent of a larger turning radius with cross trail traverses.

Training Days...

While the surfaces are firmer than many would prefer, the value of
training on any conditions that are more demanding is mastering
those challenges and becoming a better Skier. Learn how to control
well in very firm, hard, or icy conditions and every day becomes easier!

Sunny Soleil may have some very sweet spring surfaces today!

Toboggan on Soleil is one of the first Trails to benefit from combinations of
Sun and Temp’s, so it’s a good candidate for a run around Noon when
those two factors may have enough total energy to create softness.

No matter what the exact Surface Composition ends up as in terms
of Soft, Firm, Icy, Snowy...

Mountain Crews Have Delivered “Smooth” and that makes it easier
for all Skill Levels to handle the “Wild Cards” of Spring.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
