Lets Start With.... Big New Open Terrain!

Sample A: Rope Tow

Rope Tow has been Opened at a width and quality that is above the average,
we suspect due in large part to the abundance of Natural Snowfall in this sector.
Typically, it may start in early days with a track down its first pitch that runs
as a path parallel to the Lowell T Triple Chair, but this year, wider portions of
top and bottom as well as practically the whole width of the pitch are available.

The Lowell Thomas Trail itself(seen above as the trail on the left of the “Y")
has not yet been opened yet however, it certainly has looked very well
covered for several days so we would not be surprised to see it, and maybe
even Rigodon, in the very near future.

Sample B: Nansen

Nansen has been opened with a single descent path over the Pitch, and straight
down to Mi Chemin. Nansen has also gotten width benefits from all the Natural
Snow and almost the entire width of the lower pitch is nicely in place allowing
for loads of room compared to the usual narrower initial track of some past seasons.
Unfortunately, at the time we were there, photography was not practical at
the crest of the pitch due to wildly blowing snow, so this sample is taken just below
the entrance, looking down towards the first turn to the left above the pitch.

Otherwise A), All the New Snow has complimented the recovery process
from the warmth that ended yesterday and in a way, it’s as if that warmth
never happened. It seems just as much “Winter” now as it did before those
last couple of Spring-Soft days.

There is remarkably little ice, a few bits here and there, and the centre of
the steep section of La Traverse, but in proportion to the total Open area
very very few icy bits. We found very consistent levels of Grip and Carving
Edge performance on all the terrain we got to. Your experience may differ if
you have not had a recent tune up, but even then, there’s so much snow
and so little ice that traction seems easy to find.

The whole Mountain has been swarmed by Speedy Kidzzz... Whizzzzing Around

(Please Note: There were 2 X 10 minute patches of Sunshine earlier today. Small and
short, they did inject a wee bit of brightness for a while....)

Crowds light, lines short, Snow Excellent, plan to go
tomorrow for All Day SUNSHINE(???), if you can.

Relatively Speaking...

Big, Big New Opening Terrain News!

Nansen Haut, Upper To Mi Chemin On Progressive Open Status!

Below:
This is the latest File Shot We have of the Nansen Entrance Area from 5 days ago,
and even thought we’ve gone from a Cool-to-Warm-Back-to-Cool cycle, the point
is, there was a lot of natural snow in this sector to begin with and other than
maybe cosmetic differences in Tree Snow, the Trail Snow is still all there.

At 9(*) Open Trails, Here’s the little “POP” upwards in the Open Terrain
we’ve all been hoping for!

...and they’re all popular and very important additions in the annual escalation
sequence for all Skill Levels.

Win/Win For Everyone From Beginners To Experts!

The dimensional extent to which the New Terrain is Open has yet to be observed,
however, Rope Tow down to La Traverse is much more defined by it’s narrower width,
and more likely to be at full width than Nansen that is a far wider trail, and often opens
with a track that is a portion of it’s total and very wide width.

It is possible that Nansen may be open to full width due to all the Natural Snow, we’ll
find out shortly and we welcome you back for Apres Ski to review the the pic’s.

Also in tonights Apres Ski...
Tremblant.ca states that Snowmaking is back on line, however the Snowmaking
Icons do not yet seem to be activated on the Official Data, so we’ll be physically
looking at where the big concentrations are in that department, as those areas can
generally be considered as a “Preview” of near-term terrain openings.

Back To Regular Tremblant News...

Yesterday’s Natural Snowfall has been statistically recorded at 13cm’s which we feel
is very accurate. The reason it’s difficult to refer to the stat though, is that the
high velocity wind that was propelling big snowflakes at near-ballistic speeds,
will have vastly different rates of accumulation depending on how the vortices
shaped the flow of the snow over topographical Mountain features. If you are not
aware of how the wind and snowfall were working, please review our Apres Ski for
yesterday by using the “Previous Topic” button(located upper page right).

Today will be far more enlightening on that account as we actually get to see
how/where the snow ended up, rather than just watching it go by at 80 KMPH.

Yes indeed, we briefly did have full frontal flying snow literally in your face at about
80 Stinging KMPH! Think of it this way... Headwind gusts up to 50KMPH, plus a descent
speed at 30 KMPH +/-, = 80 or more KMPH Relative Wind Speed while moving.

As we said last night, ever so briefly, these big, fat snowflakes with that much
speed, felt like BB’s on your chin!

It is not hard to understand that where the wind was most focused, the snow
accumulations may be less because it could not settle on the wide open flat
trail surfaces. Conversely, where surfaces were in the “Lee” or sheltered from
direct facing force, the snow was being deposited at higher than statistical depths.

Generally that was the difference between Sud, South and Nord, North at Tremblant
yesterday, but we’ll be looking for more specific areas of accumulations within
that reference as an insight into where the best evolving conditions are.

From Beginners To Expert/Racers... Everyone Benefits From P’tit Bonheur!

Weather Notes:

Mild -1C/30F at Sud, South Base level, but with moderate to more than moderate NW
winds, so coming up the Mountain from the Nansen Sector. At least it’s not super cold,
so other than some occasionally blustery encounters, say at the top of Beauvallon,
once you’re below the Summit it should be an easy early season day.

Partially Sunny? Maybe, but it looks more perma-grey now, so if it does get
sunny we’d consider that a bonus.

Lower temps at Elevations by maybe -4C, should easily keep all the new snow
intact.

Conditions Notes: Newly Opened Terrain Can Have Chunky Bits for a day or so
while traffic and the first overnight Grooming cycles render out finer particle sizes.
Watch Speed Over Crests and on Pitches where icy bits may occur.

Page under gradual assembly.... Refresh Frequently if you must, but seriously...

Stop Reading... Go Skiing....

That is of course, unless you live far, far away, as in the Beautiful County of Surrey
in the U.K., or say Philadelphia, PA/USA, for examples, in which case the take-away
from all this is that Tremblant has achieved a very solid start to the seasons base
foundation that we consider to be permanent for the season now. Particularly in light
of long term weather forecast models that are trending to average or below average
temps, the overall picture is a very positive outlook for quickly maturing conditions and
Open Terrain expansion.

Things should be Great when you get here....

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
