12/12/16 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski Edit under Construct @ 10:30 P.M.

Let’s Say This Was Your Whole Day At Tremblant Today...

All Day, Thick, Heavily Falling, Big, Fat, Fluffy, Natural Snow.

This was our whole day at Tremblant today and while Experts were blasting around
with great joy, Beginners and Intermediates were coping at various degrees of skill
with the abundant and rapid accumulation. Quickly building thickness in surface
layers is not always easy as many control movements become cumbersome when
you have to push against deep snow that has been tracked up and mogul’d by
traffic. There are some rare times when for those on the basic Learning Curve, “Too
Much Snow” can sort of make things awkward and today was bordering on that.

Of course, there’s no such thing as “Too Much Snow” at a Ski Resort, so every
single, precious, snowflake is appreciated by the all the Skiing/Boarding public,
even if it is challenging for a day or two, if only for the reason that everyone
knows how important additional Snow is for the early season developmental
quality of the Alpine Trail Network Base.

Very Un-Officially, we’d say there’s roughly 15-->20 Cm’s(8 inches for our American
Cousins) in most places, and some places with more, due to wind shaped drifting.
We have no idea what the stat’s say yet, this is just what we’ve seen in our travels today.

This is the kind of Natural Snowfall that will positively enhance 99.9%
of the Tremblant Alpine Trail Network Base, but... it will take a day or two
to have that benefit rendered into a truly smooth and solidly compacted
addition to the Base. We can live with that!

In the Mean-time, it’s absolutely critical that those with either the “Entry Skill Levels”,
or "New To Tremblant", consult with Tremblant’s distinctively uniformed Info. “?” Crews
who are Radio Controlled and Up To Date with current Openings and Conditions.
Your Tremblant day is going to go so much better if your Skills are appropriately
matched to Terrain Difficulty when the Weather Challenges can make some trails
significantly more difficult than their normal Green or Blue ratings.

Race Teams Continue to come to Tremblant in huge numbers to take advantage
of some of the best Early Season Training in Eastern North America.

There is so much snow that many people are cutting the lines and the entire
Mountain is covered in tracks as “Off Piste” explorers can be observed by the
trails they leave in every visible corner of the Mountain. We strongly discourage
anyone from doing this, but judging by the too numerous to count tracks in the
deep fresh powder, there are many who are willing to take risks.

Yesterday saw the surprise Opening of McCulloch and we are planning to get there
tomorrow for a more thorough side to side review. The consensus of those we know
who’ve been on it, is that early on in the day it’s great, but as time wears on, so does
the centre, and at the end of the day, the best snow is on the sides. That would be quite
common for any new trail opening where there’s a long consistent pitch, so it’s an
appropriate reminder to use caution in all initial descent cycles over freshly opened terrain.

Speaking of Freshly Opening Terrain.... There is great anticipation expressed by
all riders up the Duncan Quad as they pass over acre after acre of the first stages
of rough cut grooming on Duncan from top to bottom.

Duncan does look very close to Opening soon. Mountain Crews have many hours
in both snowmaking and grooming machine time, so we won’t be too surprised
ourselves if it shows Officially Opened “Soon”.

More in the morning, however....

The mild -4 C temps of today are forecast to repeat for tomorrow, so with
tonights incremental refinement from another grooming cycle over all the
new snow, it’s not hard to understand the enthusiasm of all the regional
regulars who express great anticipation for tomorrow’s First Tracks.

In the Mean-time...

After the Big Weekend 24 Hour Children’s Charity Marathon, Crews have been
working all night to refine the new Open Terrain, including the Summit-To-Base
Versant Sud, South Side Via Johannsen to Resort Base.

Plus... More New Natural Snow!

There should be a considerable increase in today’s All-Day surface smoothness
and consistency because there will only be a fraction of the busy 24 Hr
Event/Weekend Traffic. Tremblant Guests today will comparatively
speaking, have the whole place to themselves with the huge added bonus of
Full Mountain Vertical Ski-Out Utility on both Versant Sud, South and Versant
Nord, North.

Reconfiguring the Sud, South Resort Base Johannsen may take a day or so to
break in the initial grooming over the very bottom portion where the 24Hr Course
came into the Gondola staging Start/Finish zone, but yesterday’s Last Run
experience showed there was a remarkably smooth and snowy granular
descent on the left side going down from the Beauvallon intersection that
was a lot more user friendly than we thought it might be after such an active day.

Mountain Crews were out in force right at last run and the entire length of Beauvallon,
as well as Alpine and Nansen were closed off for Grooming Machines, leaving
Taschereau and Dessarres as the Sud, South Side descent path. This was definitely
an Experts Only Last Run path. Taschereau had developed a traffic generated slick/icy
centre and there was very little soft snow left on the edges, so there were numerous
places where gravity could pull you with greater force than edging could hold.

We mention this not to dwell on it, but rather to illustrate the kinds of typical
conditions that an early season busy weekend can have and to promote the value
of coming to the Mountain with tuned edges on Skis or Board to optimize your
time here if weekends are your main Slope-time.

McCulloch was not on the Open List yesterday, but it was indeed Open, and looking
Very Fine too. Bonus!!!

We had actually hoped to use McCulloch as Last Run, but it too was closed off
as we got to it, so we’ll try to work that in today.

Over On The North...

There were quite a few people we’d consider to be good sources of info., who
thought Duncan might be Open today, however, that has evidently not happened.
At Last Run on the North, there were Groomer Tracks on it literally, from Top-To-Bottom,
but they were those initial rough cuts at that stage and it may just be that Duncan
needs more refining than could be done last night, especially with all the Machine
time necessary to get the main South to base routes done too. We could certainly
understand that priority if that was the case, but regardless, we respect Mountain
Crews commitment to Open New Terrain at the highest possible finished quality
and that takes time to get right.

Over on the Beauchemin/P’tit Bonheur side of the North, things were very predictably
fine. Smooth, Fast, virtually glitch free, this sector was almost zero icy that we
experienced, and the only operational caution was the Snowmaking zone on
Beauchemin Bas, Lower, on the last gentle pitch running parallel to the Edge Sector
Exit of Letendre, which ran from there down to the runout to the Expo Quad.

Conditions Forecast Summary: We expect that virtually everything open may
see solid gains in refined grooming and Ski/Board Shred Depth and Turning Grip
performance. All day Natural Snowfall will be an asset to all grooming efforts too,
so the whole day could be nothing but better on an escalating upward scale.

Excerpt From Our Last Night's Apres Ski:

A Note To Future Winter 2016/17 Tremblant Trip Planners:

Sneaking Up on Mid-December, Tremblant is in Great Shape for a well established
Seasonal Base on all sides. Tremblant Trip Planners sitting at a distance should
take comfort in this early season advantage that will favourably influence
conditions whenever you’re arriving. Both the Frost into the Mountain, as well
as the outright accumulations of Natural Snow are principal factors that
positively effect the quickness with which the Mountain achieves maturity
of conditions quality and All-Season durability.

Weather Notes:

Natural Snowfall All Day Long.

Nice!

Daytime Sud, South Resort Base Temp’s up to -4 C with light Easterly winds
that may have some small gusts. The Summit may make it up to -8C or so,
and all things considered, a really easy early winter day with a Super Beautiful
gently falling medium sized Snowflake. Total accumulation today may range
between 4 to 7 Cm’s and with the low wind speed there could even be some
pockets of drift-in that make for identifiable Sweet Spots within the Open Terrain.

You need to go and find them...

Page Under Progressive Assembly with Apres Ski to follow, but based on the
weather, the low traffic, the refined groomed terrain, there’s a lot to like at
Tremblant today for those lucky enough to be here.
