The Forecasted Sun never materialized, The Grey, Flat Light was camera Challenging,
But... The Skiing is Heavenly within most of the Groomed inventory.
Generally Good, however there are Wind and Traffic generated Slick and
occasionally icy bits around Crests and in the traversed centre’s of some Pitches.
Tuned Edges are essential for effective speed and directional inputs over
these small areas in order to prevent Mid-Turn Blow-outs from brief losses
of Grip. Typical... They are very, very small compared to Total Open Areas,
but can cause disproportionally large consequences if they cause a fall.
The Vast Majority of Snow Surfaces Spread like Butter and Ski like Silk,
with Great Edge Hold and Fast, Low Resistance Glide...
A lot of Ski Instructors had their students out on Fuddle-Duddle, Bas, Lower.
There were even, rolling contours there that were good for “Unweighting” phases
of Turn execution. For Experts, it was Super-easy to be airborne for near
every turn, but at lower and safer speeds than on some of the wider trails
where the same manoeuvres would need greater velocity. Dare we say
Lower Fuddle-Duddle gets todays Unofficial “Fun” Award!
It was windier on the Sud, South Side, by quite a bit, but that had zero effect on
the trail surfaces other than to “Re-Fresh” them on a more-or-less constant
basis, which made them feel like “Self-Grooming” as tracks from one run
were filled in over on the next run.
We stand by pretty much all of our Orig. Post below, especially the
User Friendly aspects of the day’s Ski/Board activity.
Please Note: Weather Forecast Detail For Wed. And Thurs. Included Below.

49(*) Open Trails on Sud, South and Nord, North Sectors at #Tremblant.
Yesterday was the First Day of the Season Lac Tremblant Froze Over.
What Does That Mean For The Alpine Trail Network?
(Clue: A Year Ago, we only had 14(*) open Trails and
Lac Tremblant did not freeze over ’til January 5th.)
The significance of Lac Tremblant Freezing over is an indicator of the total exposure
of the Mountains Alpine Trail Network to Hard and Heavy Levels Of Exterior Frost.
This Frost is transferred into the Mass of the Mountain where it builds as Cold Refrigerant
Storage Reserve that helps keep all Seasonal, Future, Trail Surfaces Stable throughout
the Normal Temperature Swings that may include January, February, March Thaws,
and/or “Spring”. As a measure of Progressive Seasonal Co-Factor Attainment...
we are roughly three weeks to a month ahead of last year in overall conditions.
For Today, and the next few days of warmer, but still Sub-Zero’s, it potentially
means the very best of Cryogenically Cold Shocked Winter Snow Performance
with pleasant daily temp’s. Kind of a “Best Of Both Worlds” thing for at least 3
days or so.
This shot below is from Sunday, just about the last time(until today), it was
practical or even possible to have bare fingers out to work camera settings
for more than a few seconds. While that’s a drawback for Outdoor Winter
Photography, it’s Excellent for Skiing! In our opinion, nothing performs as
well as Super-Cool “Squeaky” Snow... and... that applies to all Skill Levels.
With the Snow we have this morning, everything is “Easier” for Beginners,
right on up to Experts because it's Snow that has Low Friction and High Grip properties
all at once. Glide is Easy, Control and Braking are Easy, so it’s just as wonderful
for Entry Level Learning as it is for Racing!
So, with that in mind, we think there’s some very sweet potential for the next 3 days
that would be worth trying to get here for, if you can organize the time off. More
specifics on that below in “Weather Notes”.
Weather Notes:
----------------- Conditions Caveat -----------------
The Un-Groomed Open Terrain has Good Early Snow, and many typical Early
Season Natural Hazards.
When you Ski or Board "Hors Piste”, in this case, anywhere off the Groomed Trails,
you take Risk where damage or injury are possible.
It Is Critically Important That You Adhere To Hand Posted Ski Patrol “EXPERTS ONLY”
Signage and that you discourage all other Skill Levels from entering.
Compared to the Groomed, there is a far greater probability of damage to Ski/Board
Bases and Edges and you must accept responsibility personally, as and where Posted.
We have been criticized by our "Sous Bois” BushWhacker Friends of not adequately
showing the nature of au natural...
Therefore, this is a Pic.Sample of Un-Groomed, au Natural, Open Terrain from Sunday.
Obviously, Caution with Speed and Navigation are essential to minimize risks.
---------------- End of Caveat ---------------
49(*) Open Trails on the Archival Copy of Official Open Trails,
Grooming, Snowmaking, Lift Status and Mountain Conditions
for December 20th, 2016, Courtesy of Tremblant.ca Light Traffic and Great Winter Performance For All Skill Levels make
these next few days a genuine opportunity to get either a TON of
Vertical or a lot of Very High Quality Learning/Practice time
Skiing or Boarding before the Big Holiday Rush.
The Open Groomed Terrain Is Very Fine And It Is Both A Joy And
Excellent Exercise To Be Skiing or Boarding At Tremblant Now.
