It Started Out Overcast, But At About 11:00A.M., Things Began To Change...
It’s been so long since we’ve seen the Sun, and there was a very positive
sense of appreciation. Greetings to the Folks we spoke to from Florida!
You wanted to Escape the Heat, so we hope you enjoyed some really “Cool” Tremblant!
As you rise up the Mountain in the Gondola, there are views of Great Ski and Board
conditions in every direction you look.
Expectations of Super High Quality and Super High Performance are realized
from First Tracks to Last Run.
There’s Only One Obvious Conclusion...
You Should Be Racing Over To Tremblant!
Considering:
1) The Overnight Kkkkkoool Summit Temps at near -20C, and “Cryogenic” Quick Snow,
2) Another Overnight-Shift Grooming Cycle,
3) Very Light Weekday Traffic, Minimal Wear Factors,
4) The Quality of the pre-existing Alpine Trail Base,
5) Another “Sunny” Day???? Is it Possible????
If so, taking into account “All Of The Above”...
Tomorrow, Monday January 30th, 2017, has significant potential to be...
The New “Best Day Of The Season!”... So Far!
P.S. ... If you look forward over the next 2 weeks, there could maybe be
Several New “Best Days” of Season, as Grooming Cycles over stable Sub-Zero’s
may well produce escalating Quality Standards. Combined with More Snowfall
Conditions can realistically be expected to get nothing but Better! So... if you
can’t do “Tomorrow”, then get your Ducks In A Row for any time you can go soon!

And... If you select Terrain that’s appropriate for your actual Skill Level(**)...
The Chances Of You Having A Great Day At Tremblant Are Also 100%
For Genuine Experts, Everything is Excellent.
Otherwise...
---------------- Reality Clause/Conditions Caveat -------------
(**)The reason we specify matched Trail Rating to Actual Skills, is that with
new, soft, fresh snow, and a busy weekend, the difficulty of any given Trail
may increase during the day due to traffic generated surface characteristics
such as Moguls or Icy Bits being formed.
In the above picture of Nord, North Side Lowell Thomas, what you see is
a beautiful expanse of Snow White which is in generally excellent shape,
however, on the pitch immediately in front of us here, there were some
small(in relation to total square surface area) Icy Bits just below the crest
that were giving Intermediates “Whoops” moments as they came over the
top expecting “Grip", and what they got was “Slip”. You could see there was
a difference between the people that were winging over the top and the
people who were stopping at the crest to either observe or begin the
descent over the pitch from a controlled start. We like the later group
because they clearly demonstrate care and control, as opposed to the
“Bombers” who if not genuine Experts, were the sole source of all the
“Whoops” moments and close calls.
We frequently encourage all Mountain Users to observe Patterns of
evident or developing challenges and to avoid risks by proactively
anticipating and mitigating those risks with caution and reduced
speed where ever they may be expected.
As we said in last night’s Apres Ski, Basically, the Steeper the Pitch,
the more likely the Icy Bits, and this Lowell Thomas sample was just
one example of a pattern that if recognized, can save responsible
Mountain Users from any consequent grief around any similar situations.
We frequently(including yesterday) get accused of being too “Rosy” , i.e. too optimistic
or too positive, without being realistic, however what we see and experience
is that those who would be most vocally critical of conditions(Including Yesterday),
are those who are on Terrain above their actual Skill Level. Genuine Experts will all
acknowledge “Icy Bits”, but they don’t whine about them or any other naturally occurring
challenges. For the most part, they bring Tuned Gear and they have the Skills to safely
navigate challenges with a clear understanding that when it comes to dealing with the
unique forces of Mother Nature’s powerful shaping hand, Glitches can happen and the
most important thing is your own capability to anticipate and react Skillfully.
Our Pet Peeve... Just because you can afford 3G’s of New Gear and Look/Sound
like a Pro on the Chairlift, does not actually make you a Pro on the Slopes as you
spin out over a loose Snowflake and end up in the Sous Bois.
If your Skills Were Matched To Trail Selection...
The New Snow feels like quite nearly “Liquid” Smooth underfoot. It is truly
a joy to be on. Control Movements are instantly responsive, traction is Excellent
and the Carving energy that can be applied from Summit to Base in 95% of
the Open Groomed Terrain is fabulous fun. This is exercise that will put a smile
on your face and build both power and endurance in your Quads. With 100% Open,
we respectfully submit, you are going to run out of “muscle" way before you run
out of “Tremblant”!
Bonus... The scenery is Tremblant Spectacular... Even on the Grey Days!
Weather Notes:
Anecdotal Reflections... We can never remember such a time when the forecast
for “Sunny” or “Partially Sunny” has been so consistently wrong.
This New Year, and this whole season so-far, have seen Frequent, Numerous,
Often, A Lot Of, Many, Many, days with a forecast component of some degree
of “Sun” that have simply not materialized.
Yesterday was one of them... Supposed to be “Partially Sunny”??? This was about
as close as it came.... a glint of brightness over Lac Tremblant in backlit contrast
to the Summit level “Grey”.
We did hear reports of a “Moment” of Sunlight for those in the line at the
Nord, North Side Base Duncan Quad yesterday, but it was literally a “moment”
in that reference.
Fine with us... once again anecdotally, 85% of those “Grey” instances have also
resulted in Snowfall, so we’re totally happy to see the forecast wrong when Snowfall
is in the alternate.
Otherwise, todays forecast is for high temp of -4C with Partially Sunny Sky,
afternoon possibility of Snow Flurries and Moderate Nor-Westerly winds moving
up the Mountain over Beauvallon.
Another Super-Easy January Winter Day!
