14(*) Open Trails on the Warmer, Still Winter White, Sud, South
and Nord, North Sectors at #Tremblant.
Yesterday we wrote about “Low Traffic Density” due to the
vast square area of Opening Day Trail acreage.
Here is a a Typical Slope-Side Crowd Scene
from Opening Day.

Of course there were times when there were lots more people visible,
but most of the time you felt like you literally had the place to yourself.
Another reason we’re leading off with the above photo was that we had
heard Chair Lift Talk before we took this run on Upper Sud, South, Beauvallon,
that it was “Icy” and we wanted to see for ourselves how accurate that
opinion was.
The answer is that Beauvallon did have the occasional icy bit, However...
from a clinical standpoint there is far more of what we would call extremely
dense, groomed and solidly packed mixed natural and blown snow and
if you don’t have tuned edges, you might think it was Icy.
Below is one of the Hundreds of Racer Kids visiting Tremblant now on
exactly the same patch of real-estate and we can tell you for a fact,
you don’t get this kind of angulated turning grip on “Icy”. When
you have the simple mechanical advantage of tuned edges, for 90%
of Tremblant’s currently Open Terrain, you can Hook-up and GO!

The two pictures above were taken from the same POV and within 90 seconds.
The relevance of this point is applicable to all Skill levels from Beginners
to Experts and it can not be overstated at this very early stage as surfaces
are responding to Weather, Grooming and Skier/Boarder Traffic.
The over-riding positive factor in all Tremblant Open Terrain right now
is the Smoothness that Mountain Crews have produced. Smoothness
makes all those “Other Factors”, like density or slickness, even icy, so
much easier to deal with when Speed is appropriately controlled.
In our opinion, if you select terrain matched to your actual Skill Level
and you can keep your speed safely controlled for Line-of-sight navigation,
all of Tremblant is Easy.
The other thing that’s easy at Tremblant right now is Zero Lift Lines.
With so much Open, not only is there loads and loads of Trail Space, but
the Lift Lines just do not exist.
Ski to any lift and get right on. Not Once did we ever wait yesterday. Not Once.
The only lift line we are aware of was the one for the Red Carpet Opening Day
Celebration just before 8:30 A.M. yesterday morning.
The combination of such unusually large Open Trail availability and ZERO
Lift Lines made it seem like a real Holiday Gift yesterday and we think that will
probably be the same today.
The weekend may be different due to Montreal and Ottawa Tremblant
Fans who have to wait for the weekend, but even then we think a lot
of people are engaged with Seasonal chores like Gift Shopping and
putting up the X-Mas lights, etc., so it would not surprise us either way.
Even if it is busier, there’s so much unused Up-Hill Lift Capacity, we do not think
it will be a problem.

Please note: At Mountain Elevations we’re hoping this Precip. will
stay all Snow. We’ll get back to you on how that actually works out.

Conditions Notes:
Snowmaking And Expansion of Open Terrain News.
There’s a lot of Snowmaking going on both Sud, South and Nord, North.
Noteworthy are two huge zones being Nansen Bas, Lower on the South,
and the Lowell Thomas Sector on the North.
The Nansen Bas one is of particular importance because it offers the second,
and only other descent path to the Versant Sud, South Side Resort Base
and it is the only “Green” Trail pathway to the Base on that side.
This development is perhaps 1.5 to 3 weeks ahead of schedule based
on a twenty year average.

The entire Lowell Thomas Sector is well underway and we would say
anecdotally, it is maybe 1.5 to 3 weeks ahead of schedule, compared to
a twenty year average too.
Both Rigodon and La Traverse look Skiable on Natural Snow alone, and
there is heavy Snowmaking evident there as well.
It is possible, maybe... could those areas come on-line for the Weekend?
