Dedicated Apres Ski Feature on Lowell Thomas Sector Opening,
and Nansen Bas, Lower Opening, attached below as “Reply” and
under construction @ 9:23 P.M.

24(*) Open Trails on the Sud, South, Nord, North, PLUS...
New Open Nord Sector Lowell Thomas, at #Tremblant

Big, Big, Big... Really, Really BIG Day
Of Critical Importance at Tremblant!

(To be followed by dedicated Apres Ski Pictorial This Eve. @ Approx. 21:00Hrs)

Lowell Thomas Sector... Open!

Nansen Bas, Lower... Open!

Firstly... News of the Lowell Thomas Sector Opening is usually the first
major Multi-Trail zone to come on-line on an Over-night basis
due to the number of trails required to complete descent path(s)
to the Beauchemin at Lowell Thomas Triple Chair Base.

Here’s a sample of the Prep. work that could be seen from a Nord, North,
Beauchemin, Haut, Upper descent as you passed by, at Last Run yesterday.

We think you’ll find this, and all the other trails needed here, to be at
finished levels of smoothness equal to all the other Open Trails. However,
there is the possibility you could find mixed particle sizes for a day to two
as traffic and one or two overnight Grooming cycles integrate the snow
through active service.

We’ve observed huge amounts of Mountain Op’s efforts here, ever since
Opening Day and there could be no doubt that it was going to be “Soon”,
there’s just way too much Snow in this area to expect otherwise.

Secondly... Nansen Bas, Lower OPEN!!!

We have written extensively over the years about the critical importance of
Nansen Bas, Lower to the efficient, effective Traffic Flow enhancement to all
Versant Sud, South Side Descent Paths because it essentially removes most
of the Beginner and a lot of Intermediate Skill Level Traffic from the Complex
Multi-Trail/Multi-Pitch, Converging Intersection at the TGV Quad Base Zone.

This is Brilliant Effort On The Part Of Mountain Op’s Crews!

Bravo, Tremblant!!!

11.29.17 Apres Ski Nansen Bas, Lower, Trail Opening Preparations...

This Will Be As Smooth As Interstate/AutoRoute/Motorway
Highway Standards This Morning!

By providing an Alternate, Easy, “Green” Descent path to the Sud, South, Resort Base,
this single, simple, Trail Opening simultaneously elevates “User Friendly”
and All-Day Surface Quality For All Skill Levels, and on All Versant Sud, South
Side, Bas, Lower Descents. Period.

ADDITIONALLY: Beginners, Intermediates and any other interested parties,
Now Have A Single 6 Kilometre Descent Path To Practice On.

The value of Nansen as a Summit-To-Base Descent Can Not Be Overstated.
Nansen is a “Marquis” Tremblant Trail with a Pedigree of Excellence since 1939.

Moving Forward...

Other Conditions Notes:

Yesterday was a bit Icy because the temps dropped to Sub-Zero after
the Mountain Opened, but big overnight Grooming should get all back
to normal, starting Now.
This is a repeat from 4:30 A.M. on Opening
Day, but we’re putting a new Title on it. This is EXACTLY what’s been going
on all night at Tremblant from Last Run yesterday to First Tracks this morning.

The only other thing you can do is run with Sharp, Tuned, Edges.
If possible, those fresh edges should be attached to Skis or Board
with significant torsional rigidity to maximize lateral grip.

In our case, we have an old, but very low use, set of FIS/SL 158’s @ 12.5 Turn Radius.
These old race Skis Eat “Icy” for breakfast... They’ll hold an edge on a Hockey Rink,
and they make what might be considered marginal conditions, fun again.

They were only a wee bit over 100Bucks on an Internet Trading Site, so
a very inexpensive way to cope with any days that have “Firm” surfaces.

In Our Observational Opinion...

Tremblant is a Minimum of 10 Days ahead of 20 year average Schedules
in outright logistical placement, and... 10 days to two weeks ahead of
those same 20 year averages in Overall Trail Surface Quality metrics.

“Super Season” Predictions are well on the way to reality... Now.

T360 11/30/17 Apres Ski Feature on:

11.30.17 Lowell Thomas and Nansen Bas, Lower, New Terrain Openings.

Not All Trail Openings Can Be Perfect...

But “Really, Really Close” is becoming more and more common at Tremblant!

Todays Openings of Both Lowell Thomas Sector and Nansen Bas, Lower,
were Everything We Imagined And More.

This will mark the Opening of these two areas at Standards that could be
called Excellent for any historical comparisons to the Third Week of February, i.e.,
comparisons to some of the best Mid-Winter Weeks of the whole Season.

This will mark the Opening of these two areas at Standards that could be
called “The Best Ever", that any Locals could even remember, as in ”Forever”.

Very, Very Impressive.

Lets look at Lowell Thomas First.

Historically Speaking, we can not recall any recent years, say within 10,
that Lowell Thomas has Opened from the Summit down to the lower
intersection with Rope Tow, then on to La Traverse and Rigodon, where
there has been such evident finish to the outboard Trail-sides over the entire
descent. There are some mixed size particles, but they are all soft, and simply
want the refinement that comes from use and 1 or 2 nightly Grooming Cycles.

For Day 1, another High-Point effort that needs to be recorded for the
outstanding results that seem to be happening more often at Tremblant
every season...

We could get used to this!

(Skis Shown above for Surface Scale Reference.)

You Have No Idea How Much Fun And Fast There are in these pics...
it was a Grey Day, so challenging for photography to pick up all the
detail, but just ask anyone you could find Trail-side, the weather was
perfect for Trail Openings!

We chose Rigodon so we could shoot out across the Lowell T Base Plateau
and it was quickly apparent Speed would not be a problem, nor turning Grip.
We still have the old FIS/SL’s out, and they were certainly good in this environment,
but they were not necessary today because everything was Softer and Snowier
to begin with.

The New Lowell Thomas Trail Surfaces are Firm, but... there was not a single
speck of ice, and the top layers and particles were all Snow.

Moving On To Nansen...

Basically a repeat of the Lowell T experience with the exception that the
snow particle sizes may have averaged on the smaller side due to slightly
warmer Versant Sud, South Side, lower level, atmospheric temp’s.

This scene below is not dramatic or panoramic in any way, but if there
is Beauty in Utility, then to those who appreciate the Nansen experience,
it is a very beautiful sight for no other reason than the promise of the
Great Descent you’re looking forward to from below this point, right down
the the Sud, South Resort Base.

Another example of Wall-To-Wall, Pure White, Winter Trail Magic.

Carving on these surfaces was addictive. Edge hold matched to speed
and descent pitch produced Lateral G-force Turning performance that
was completely reliable with very highly angulated technique. Turn after
turn, for as long as your Quad Muscles can handle it. Then, dial back the
speed, open up the turns to a wider radius and cruise to your heart’s content.

All Skill Levels can have Both Fun, and Serious Practice here.

We have spoken elsewhere about High Angle-Banking, and in a somewhat related
way, the Grooming path adjacent to Trail #5, La Passe, down and around the “S”
shape to the upper entrance of #96, “Tam Tam”, was beautifully “Banked” by
Grooming Crews who have very nicely shaped the Opening Flow of this area in
a way that seems to offset some of the turning forces.

Another interesting aspect of the Nansen Bas, Lower Opening is that the Trail
seems wider. We may have had a thousand runs on Nansen, and maybe
it’s exactly the same, but... it just “feels” wider, a feeling that’s a by-product
of a regular user’s sense of spacial orientation, conditioned by the accumulated
experience of executing high energy carves using the whole Trail width, over and over.
Additionally it was almost flawlessly smooth, with just a touch of soft speed and
excellent, consistent Shred Depth for high angle-banked carving.

Bottom Line on Nansen Bas, Lower... Another outstanding Opening at
very, very close to flawless, literally as good as any 3rd week of a great
February, but at the end of November. That’s Impressive.

No words can adequately cover these superlative openings. You actually
need to be here to independently experience it for yourself. We’ll have more
pic’s processed by the morning, so the best we can hope for is that there is
sufficient detail visible to encourage you to make the attendance decision
for yourself. As far as we’re concerned, the essence of it remains that what
we have on these openings, are conditions we’d think were Excellent in the
Third Week of February, except it’s actually November 30th.

Very Impressive indeed.

Thank You Tremblant Mountain Op’s. Fabulous, Fabulous Work!
