T360 Late Eve. Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 11:11 P.M.

Lowell Thomas Sector Opening, Versant Nord, The North Side At Tremblant.

This Is The Way It’s Done.

Default: Smooth.

(Please Note: The sun is very low in the winter sky so all pic’s
on Versant Nord/North today have altered white balance, contrast,
etc., to show snow surface detail.)

Firstly, the weather has had the typical November
oscillations, mostly below Zero C, but just occasionally
enough above Zero C to generate some either very firm
or icy substrate strata in the base. This has rendered an
overall very solid platform to support the most recent
Natural Snowfall last week, as well as all the snowmaking
that has been “Banked” for the last week.

“Groomed Smooth” has been the primary Opening mode over
recent seasons at Tremblant and frankly, we’ve become spoiled.
It is a joy to hit the slopes of new sectors with this super-smooth
quality as the most basic foundational element. Anything the
weather does, or can be blamed for, is so very, very much easier
to deal with when the surfaces are immaculately smooth.

That’s what Tremblant Guests got this season with this Lowell
Thomas Sector Opening.

In this case Tremblant Guests also got a very fine top layer of
loose, carve-able snow to put their edges into, and by last run
today, it was still largely in place.

The Lowell Thomas Sector involves the development of La Traverse,
Rigodon, and Lowell Thomas Bas, Lower to Gagnon, to return Skiers
to the base of the new Lowell Thomas Quad.

For tonight’s Apres Ski, we’ll look at the “La Traverse” run-out option
as a sample of what you’ll find here on the other run-outs as well.

Below: The views from mid-La Traverse, looking down to its intersection
with Beauchemin. Smooth here too.

Not only can you see La Traverse coming into this frame from the
left side, you also get a great view here of the Snowmaking on
Beauchemin Haut, Upper.

The basic foundation of totally smooth linear trails that are
side-to-side wide and level is fully in place in the newly opened
Lowell Thomas Sector.

Of course, a blizzard would be a nice touch right about now,
but regardless, the Lowell Thomas Sector will benefit significantly
with use that will render out finer and finer particle size. Get out
and do your part to help “Break In” all the new trails!

For tomorrow, very similar in weather to today, sunny, moderate
winds and a daytime high of -3C at the Sud, South Resort Base,
so about -4C cooler at the Summit. Hope to see you there!

With any luck we could possibly even see additional Open Trails
tomorrow???

P.S. Excited to report Nansen Bas, Lower, Under Construction!

21(*) Open Trails on Sud,South and Nord, North Sectors at #Tremblant.

------- REVISED Open Trails to 25(*) @ 11:43 A.M. ---------------

Archival data attached below.

---------------- 10:00 A.M. Mountain Utility Updates: -------------------

-A problem with the Duncan Quad has necessitated its closure.
Skiers caught below the Lowell T Quad were quickly bused back
to the South Side and Beauchemin Bas, Lower is now closed.
This may be a temporary status. CHECK WITH TREMBLANT
INFO.SKI TEAM MEMBERS For Updates.

-Lowell Thomas Trail is now open to Gagnon, then back to
the Lowell Thomas Quad Base. Other than some chunky bits
from initial grooming, our T360 Fan feedback skiing it says
“Very Manageable”. That is a positive support message
for everyone using the entire vertical of the newly opened
Lowell Thomas Sector because it provides an easy path for
the entire descent.

-Versant Sud, South Side McCulloch has been closed. We do
not know at this point if this is temporary or for the day.

-There are many areas of Trail Surface Improvements with
regard to the reduction of Icy bits today, and Taschereau is
sited as a specific feedback example.

Challenging New Open Terrain On Versant Sud, South Side,

We featured this new trail opening in last nights Apres Ski
as a priority because it is very challenging terrain to a level
that is not immediately apparent by simply looking at it from
a chair lift, or seeing that it is “Open” from the top.

In it’s current “Big Bump” format, this trail deserves the
respect you would have for a Double Black Diamond rating
and it is inappropriate for anyone other than a legitimate
Expert with very well tuned, fresh, sharp edges. If you would
like to review our review, use the “Previous Topic” button,
upper screen-right, to go back to yesterday’s post for a
more detailed look.

Otherwise, Tremblant continues to be well advanced in
both open terrain and trail surface quality compared to
historical averages and as such, at this point in the early
season, is a great opportunity to be out on the slopes.

In tonight’s Apres Ski we will be taking a more detailed
view of the New Lowell Thomas Sector Opening. In the
sense that most of the Lowell T. Sector Opening has
been done with finished grooming, it is better suited
to conventional Ski technique, so easier all the way
around for multi-skill level use.

If we had to summarize the overall Skiing Experience,
we would say that so far, it is fair to call it “Technical Skiing”
in the sense that an early warm cycle put firmness and some
icy bits into the base mix substrates that still require fundamental
edging and speed control skills for optimized safety within each of
the Green, Blue and Black challenge rated descent/slope categories.

There is early season excellence within all Skill Levels of open terrain
and we recommend equitable matching of your real abilities with
your trail choices for best and safest results.

Of course, “Skills” are an inherent component of any “Sport”,
so when we have conditions that call for those basic elements,
having them, practicing them, refining them, becoming
confident with them, all contribute to increasing our abilities,
and making us better Skiers, no matter what our personal
levels were to begin with. The bonus so far, is that the vast
majority of the trail surfaces have been very good, and working
on the skills basics is always easier with such a great foundation
to begin with.

Weather Notes:

Way, way easier to start with than yesterday and
what we’re hoping for is that the “Sunny” holds
out for the duration of open hours.

Conditions Notes:

The difference in the Open Trails Count from yesterday’s 22 to
today’s 21 is shown as Johannsen, the main trail to the Resort Base.
It is also shown as having snowmaking, so it seems as though there
may be a restoration activity going on there, and at this stage, it may
be the beginning of the work to prepare for the Start/Finish Grandstand
Area for the 24 Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser Event.

As discussed above, the overall Skiing Experience within respective
Beginner, Intermediate and Expert skill levels is easy enough for the
most part with the current mix of natural and blown snow, but we still
call it “Technical Skiing” due to the fundamental braking, steering and
speed control skills necessary to handle the density and firmness in the
still early season base.

The early season Skiing is great, and you should be here
for it at any practical opportunity you can.

The Summit-To-Base Ski-outs on both sides has been and
continues to be a major benefit, and there is extensive
terrain expansion under 24hr. construction.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
