12/27/09 Conditions

1:00 P.M. Noon Update:

Temps thankfully headed down...
this should be the end of this little warm "blip"!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Some sort of "mixed" precipitation overnight,
Open Trail Count up to 50.

At least the weather will be easy to handle temp wise, with
a forecast of up to +3C at the base and -3C at the summit.
Obviously, with that range right at around the freezing mark,
you may find some slick transition zones as you make your
way down the mountain today.

The winds may be brisk at up to around 25 km and are
forecasted to be from the west, or coming up the Mountain
from the Tashereau side.

This mornings open tail count and the open lift list show
a fair number of "Progressive" or gradual openings which is
typical when we receive this type of weather. Basically, it's a
"Safety First" policy and as the condition of the terrain labeled
as "Progressive" gets verified as safely usable by the Mountain
Crews and the Ski Patrol, the ropes come down and we are
allowed access.

Some Things to Remember on a Day Like Today:

1) You can ALWAYS find good Skiing or Boarding somewhere
on the 4 sides of Tremblant. With 4 Micro-Climates...
South, North, Soleil and Edge, conditions may vary widely
depending on how Mother Nature has passed her hand
over the Mountain, but there will be good skiing or
boarding somewhere.

2) You will need to explore the Mountain with all due
care and control to find the best conditions.

3) There will be natural hazards that will be difficult to
anticipate, so caution must be used until you have
verified that conditions are safe.

4) Things may be "Different" around the next bend or
over the next rise, so do not assume anything until
you have SLOWLY and CAUTIOUSLY inspected the
terrain before you start ripping around.

5) There will be people on the Mountain with less
experience than you and you will need to use great
care and caution when passing, going by or otherwise
in areas where there are others using the area you are in.

6) Do not use any Speed faster than you can come to an IMMEDIATE stop
anywhere within your field of vision.

With those things being said, today will be a day where
technical skills and abilities will be an asset. It will actually
be a good practice day because you will probably find
conditions that will require fine edge and balance control,
so if you look at it from a positive "Lets make the best of
things" attitude, today could be considered a learning opportunity.

If your skills need improvements for these kinds of conditions,
today is an excellent day to go to the Tremblant Ski/ Board School,
grab an instructor, take an a La carte lesson and get better!...

If you are reading this Apres Ski, and you found it difficult today,
call the Ski/Board School up and book a lesson for tomorrow.
With the right knowledge, you will become better for ANY conditions.
