1/4/10 Conditions

Post by T360 »

.

77 Open Trail count this morning as we get set to begin
the rest of the season after the big Holiday time slot comes
to an end.

This is when we get really serious about the skiing and boarding,
no more huge Holiday diners with mega deserts and cookies,
it's time to get back to being a great athlete! The apple pie was
good though...

First, We want to emphasize a few concepts:

1) The Mountain has only been open for a little over 3 weeks,
so considering the late start to winter that the whole East
Coast of North America has had, we are in remarkably
fine shape at Tremblant.

2) We are Optimists, so we always try to make the best of
things and to look at the positive side. As noted below,
if there was no snow making or grooming, things could
be worse than they are, so we are grateful for what we
have and we want to look for the bright side.

3) Conditions reporting is a relative thing, in-so-far-as
comparisons go. When we say that conditions are great,
we are saying that they are great compared to if we did
not have all the endless hours of work put in by the
Tremblant Mountain Crews. Conditions are great compared
to if we did not have Snow Making, etc., etc.. If all we had
to rely on was natural snow, this year would not be as
good as it is now, that's for sure.

4) Skiing and Boarding are skills. The application of skills to
any task is not always easy, so not only must we accept the
challenges we face realistically with any given set of conditions,
but we feel that we must consider those challenges to be an
opportunity to learn, grow and improve our skills and become
better at our chosen sport.

5) There will always be great skiing or boarding somewhere
at Tremblant! You may need to explore the Mountain to find the
best lines, but that's part of the adventure. With Tremblant’s
South, North, Soleil and Edge, and the different micro-climate
weather patterns of each, you've got lots of potential to discover!
Use proper care and speed control while you explore at all times.

Moving on to the weather, we start out today with -10C and we
will move up to somewhere around -5C at base level with a
summit of -10C or so, easy enough to dress for and definitely
good temps to help maintain our surfaces.

The wind is forecast to be moderate at around 20km and from
the North-West, or coming up the Mountain from the Beauvallon
sector. Riding up the TGV quad chair will not be too bad with the
wind at your back. The North side chairs mat get gusty as you
reach the summit, but at these temps it will not be too bad.

The sky is forecasted to be overcast and there is the possibility
of some additional light snowfall, but we are even seeing some
sunny breaks, so time will tell how the day ends up.

Conditions are Very Good early season and you will need to focus
on good basic technique and watch for the possibility of natural
hazards that may occur. Keeping a compact, low centre of balance
together with careful speed control will help you to react quickly
and safely to changing situations.
