1/8/10 Conditions

.

Plan on great Skiing and Boarding for all skill levels today.

The Mountain is in very good condition with 74 open trails today
and an extensive network of groomed terrain for all skill levels.
This is a great time to get out and enjoy the fresh winter air,
get some vigorous exercise and enjoy the Mountain. It's good
for your health!

Lots of action on the Mountain with Snow Making and Grooming
as we get set for another day. There is very low visibility at the
Summit this morning, but at this mornings Summit temp of
around -12C, that's got to mean a "Snowy" accumulation of
some sort, so we're predicting nice, "grippy" surface conditions
up top.

For those regional people planing to come to Tremblant for the
weekend, good plan, you should find things in fine shape generally
speaking. As usual, care must be taken by all Mountain users to
navigate prudently, keeping in mind that there can be Snow Making
zones, natural hazards and local traffic on the Mountain that you
will need to stay aware of.

From the Tremblant activity calendar:Burton El Nino, January 9.
Young boarders ages 15 and under will be able to hone their
technique with guidance from members of the Burton team,
while pitting themselves against other boarders in a friendly jam.

Grand Prix is off-line today for race function, but snow making
continues of both Zig-Zag and Vertige, so it is possible we may
see them come on-line for the weekend. Similarly, snow making
continues on upper Expo and hopefully, it will not be too much
longer for all the many Expo fans out there who are very anxious
to get on their favorite run.

Snow making also continues on a number of trails as indicated
in the following Official, Printable copy of the Tremblant Grooming
and Trail Status report. The 3 "Tick" columns after each skill
level designated Trail name show "Ticked" for open, “Ticked"
for snow making and "Ticked" for Grooming. We hope your
favorite Trail is "Ticked"!

FUNCTIONAL "HOW TO" HINT ON GOGGLES AND
NAVIGATING SNOW MAKING ZONES:

First published Jan. 12th, '09.

If you do pass Snow Guns, do so SLOWLY to prevent airborne
snow particles from icing up your goggle lenses.

If you go too quickly through the falling blown snow, your lenses
will "run into" the airborne particles, and those particles may or
will stick to the lenses. This occurs because your FORWARD
velocity is greater than the particles DOWNWARD velocity.

There are only 2 ways to remove a film of snow particles
stuck to your goggle lenses:

1) Scrape them off. This is a mechanical process that can damage
the lens coatings and leave visible scratches that can greatly reduce
clear vision through the lens. Another thing that can happen there
is that you end up smearing mushy stuff all over the lenses causing
blurred, unsafe vision.

2) Go into a warm area, let the lenses thaw out, dry them off
according to the instructions provided by the manufacturer*,
and head back out. This is the only safe way to protect your goggle
lenses, BUT, it takes a lot of time and it will cost you at least 1 run.

(*CAUTION: manufacturers typically have SPECIFIC procedures
for lens maintenance. For Example: some OAKLEY products have an
inside lens coating that can PERMANENTLY RUINED by wiping with
any moist element. Wiping this coating with a moist element will
scratch and smear the coating and you will no longer be able to
see through it, ever. For that reason, YOU MUST AIR DRY the inside
of this lens if it has any dampness/condensation on it, BEFORE
dusting/buffing. That particular coating is only meant to be DRY
buffed/dusted with a DRY, optical quality lens cleaning cloth.
Typically, the OAKLEY storage bag for the Goggles is made of this
material, which is a good reason to keep it with you.)

The moral of the story is: If you go SLOWLY around the areas
of falling Snow Blowing, you can avoid particles hitting and
sticking to your lenses. Basically, when you go slowly enough,
the particles DOWNWARD velocity is greater than your FORWARD
velocity, so you don't "run into", or get "hit" by them the same way.

It takes only a few seconds to slow down, saves either damage
or the need to go in and ultimately is far less hassle.

This is one instance where "eyes in the back of your head” may
be required.Watch out and AROUND for traffic in Snow Making
areas, because people who may not be as smart as you are, may
not be able to see as well and could end up in your path.

In the Mean-time, it's almost sunny at the South Side base with just the slightest hint of shadows.

Snow making Bumps are a very efficient way to build inventory.
They need to "Dry Out" for a while before they can be spread,
but until that happens, some people like to play on them as
if they were Park features.

Tomorrow should be a great day, a bit cooler, but brilliant Sun forecast!
