The "Surprise" week of the season so far...

Wow, the carving on Tremblant is worth taking the day off.
If you live in the region, go straight to the Mountain now!

84 runs open over an all SNOW, very firm base. The Snow feels like satin
on all the Green and Blue skill rated trails open, and while less predictable
on the Black Diamond runs, experts should know and expect more difficult
challenges, particularly when the Black Diamond terrain is frequently
outside Snow Making zones and/or where packers can not yet go.

We start out with -15C at the base, rising under overcast skies to
around-11C and the summit should get up to about -14C or so with
light to moderate winds from the South-West or coming up the
Ryan's/Soleil sector on the South Side.

It should be fair easy to dress for today and there is also the prospect
of ongoing Snowfall, although it will probably be light and variable.
You never know though, and every once in a while, the Summit in
particular can get lots of Snow out of "Nowhere", on a day like today.

We predict that the Snowfall will generate the best fresh conditions on
the North Side, so when you get to the top, try a few runs over there
and see what it's like.

There was excellent carving on all sides of the Mountain yesterday,
Tobogan over on Soleil was absolutely perfect. P'tit Bonhuer, Perfect.
Duncan down to the Vanier intersection was great, below there, it
was a bit sketchy and there were some solid snow marbles, but then
Expo was excellent for it's first day open, so all in all, a fantastic day.

Caveat: 2 "Copy" items from yesterday, as they apply equally today:

1) Anyone that is complaining now is not choosing the right terrain for
their skill level and the conditions, does not have their equipment properly
tuned up with good, sharp, edges and/or does not understand that we
have to adapt to what Mother Nature has presented us with.

2) Tremblant is in Great shape, but getting the most enjoyment means
being properly prepared with good edges and a flexible attitude in terrain
selection with a focus on Technique basics for your skill level.

Take a look at the tracks in the snow. Our surfaces in the Green and Blue Skill level zones are all pretty much like this, just about perfect. Even Experts will have a Blast carving on these perfect runs.

Hello to another great day skiing!
:D
Yesterday was better than before and today is as well, along with
the great snow making we have the natural fluffy stuff today.
Tuesday was a beautiful sunny day and if you dressed warm
enough then you enjoyed a great day. Personally I was able
to enjoy freshly tuned skiis so it was a even a better day with
total control. There was nice soft snow made from machines on
every run I made and everyone of the lifts I talked with were really
enjoying themselves.

Finally a friend I ski with( some encouragement), got a helmet to go
with her dull board and commented to me she felt safer and more
confident , although she told me later she fell hard on the last lift
due to some " death cookies" on a north side run.

This is why I often ask those on the lifts where to go for the best runs,
many experienced regulars you can tell 'know'' the hill well , but if they
do not I always have this web site to check-in on as well since I carry my
Blackberry. ( I tend to avoid phone conversations on the lifts as a courtesy )
A liitle more sore in the joints for me today reminds me to get my massage
& joint alignment therapy.

Dr.B. Thank you for your support.

We appreciate the input and look forward
to additional content as your time permits.

With regard to today's conditions...

...the skiing was great today, but generally applicable,
you needed to be prepared to handle a few situations
that could "Make or Break" your enjoyment factor today.

One such item was vision.

Goggle lenses were getting covered by both natural and snow
making snow crystals that were almost impossible to avoid and
that goggle lens covering made vision unsafe while wearing
said goggles.

What to do:

At the bottom of the lift... remove goggles from helmet and insert
into the inside layer of your clothing, just over the stomach area
with the lens facing in against the softest inside layer. Zip up your
gear with the goggles in this warm area and take lift to top.

On the way up, your warm body heat will thaw the ice coating off the
lens and the soft material of your inner layer should wick the moisture
away. At the top, remove thawed, dry goggles from inside layer and
re-instal on helmet.

Trail-side... Same process, but stand trail-side with goggles installed
in thaw zone for aprox. 2 or 3 minutes.

Well, it worked for me a few times today, and what a difference clear
vision is! Basically, all you needed to do was use this process on the
way up in the Gondola and it didn't even take up any extra time, bonus,
clear vision with minimal effort and no time lost. I used the "Trail Side”
process as well and it works very well.

Any minor inconvenience in getting goggles off and back on is more
than offset by the benefit of clear vision.

Mean-while, back on the Mountain, the Skiing was excellent providing
that you were on terrain that was suitable for your skills.

A true expert that can handle any conditions, good or not so good,
would not have been "phased" by anything today.

All the new snow is wonderful and the scenery, even when skiing in
the cloud, is beautiful.

This is definitely Winter!

Another great day on the slopes with even better conditions,
the goggle visibility only became a slight problem when I was
not paying attention to looking ahead at the snowmaking
crystals flowing down or up the hill; so there is a bit of a tip
to avoid having to take the goggles off mid run!

Skiing the sides tend usually to be better covered with more soft
snow that has been pushed to the sides but most runs today were
well covered for extra smooth, enjoyable relaxing runs.

Another doctor commented in the gondola that he prefers Tremblant
conditions today to powder at Whistler mainly because he is from the
eastern states and is a much better technical 'experienced' skier and
likes the reliability and safety of the well groomed runs.

Even the 'death cookies' of the Duncan run were reduced considerably
today and I am getting hungry to ski every day from now on! “Action” was
found to be good soft conditions out of any wind then into "Reaction” where
the glades were great because they have not been skied much.

Dr-Bruce :D
