We would estimate that Versant Nord/North Side Expo
is one of the top 5 most popular trails at Tremblant
and it was listed as a progressive opening yesterday.
It looked almost perfect riding up the Expo Quad,
however evidently Mountain Op’s has determined
that more work needs to done as it is showing as
closed with snowmaking this morning, so to all you
big Expo fans out there... you’ll have to be patient
for a little while yet. Maybe that could change today?
In the mean-time, you can go next door and ski Cossak.

Cossak is shown as an un-groomed mogul run,
however, we can tell you for a fact that unless
they cut a bump pattern on it last night, at last
run yesterday, it was groomed quite nearly as
smooth as a billiard table. Perhaps the intent
is to start it off with the milled smooth as a base,
and let it evolve without further grooming.
We’ll see how that goes moving forward.

O.K. so you’re not an extreme steep skier, maybe
just a family group out for some healthy fitness fun...

Despite the technical demands of some of the conditions
generated by weather factors outside human control...
There are still many sectors with very fine and consistent
quality where families with kids can have loads of safe
fun. The sample above on Versant Nord/North Side
Fuddle-Duddle Bas Lower is one of them. All you need
to do is explore with care to find them, then repeat.
Weather Notes:
A nice string of easy, mild winter days, up until it looks
like we’re going to get a dose of the Polar Vortex next
week... Wow, if you’re headed here for the 19th, bring
all the layers you got ‘cause apparently you’re going to
need them.

Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
Variable and mixed surfaces consistent with ongoing
snowfall and wind, where thick softness can generate
tracking and or mogul formations as traffic patterns
evolve.
For that reason we urge all Beginners and Intermediates
to start with low challenge and only after a thorough
warm up, only move up in skill demand after you can
confirm complete speed and directional control, at all times.
There are still some slick/icy zones, mostly on steeper
pitches, just below crests. The new snow overnight may
have covered some however this is another traffic wear
situation so just check your speed way down before you
pop over any crests.
It may be necessary to locate “sweet spots/zones” and stick
with them for safe practice.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Experts only please. The conditions are generally very good
for early season, however there are some natural hazards
that are not yet covered, or have shallow coverage and you
need to be ready to navigate slowly by line-of-sight because
some of those hazards are not visible from above.
Generally:
The new snow has some thickness and adhesive sticky
characteristics. Ski/Board base wax/coatings are recommended
for friction reduction to optimize glide.
