--------------- T360 Midnight Apres Ski Edit @ 11:57 P.M. ----------------

The regular season snowmaking operations are now completely
finished and the trails are being cleared, levelled and groomed.

The initial results are outstanding.

Today saw a major, very positive step up in universally
high quality groomed surfaces that had almost no icy
bits and all day mogul resistant smoothness.

When Things Are Really Snowy, Soft And Prone To Bumpy...

Thank Goodness For Nansen!

Reliable Excellence.

An Essential Point For Beginners and Intermediates:
With all the deep new snow, there’s been a tendency for
eventual moguls on a widespread scale, however, throughout
this time, Nansen has remained smooth, well compacted and
virtually bump free.

For Experts, there’s still a lot of trail-edge drift busting
to take advantage of.

The new snow has a very slight frictional thickness to
it, so that has actually made some of the drift busting on
steeper portions like the Duncan Bas/Lower descending
right side shown above, easier due to the inherent speed
control that provides. As an advantage, that can also be
applied to Hors Piste/Sous Bois steeper zones where there
are still fresh lines available.

Weather Notes:

Definitely a Yin/Yang week ahead, nice for next 3, close to frigid the next 3.

You’ll need to review your layer inventory if you’re out for the cool ones...

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

An incremental rise in compacted density as the
result of an additional grooming night shift since
the biggest accumulation of the recent snowfall.

With the ongoing light traffic volume of mid-week,
we think that’s all going to translate into noticeably
more durable mogul free conditions over a wider
range of steepness challenge, particularly in the
shallower levels of Blue trail rated terrain.

Due to the ever-so-slight frictional element that
acts as a bit of natural speed control, we also think
it’s going to be a great day for expanding personal
skills development. It’s just easier to take on a bit
more slope angle when Mother Nature is helping
you offset gravity to even a small degree.

The new snow has very good lateral grip but it also
has a fairly good forgiveness quality generated by
what we refer to as the “shear” characteristics. The pic.
below shows surface detail of Nansen Bas/Lower and
what you can see is that the left ski tip has been rotated
in a sweeping outward action where the snow underneath
has been displaced in clearly delineated shear lines that
release surface tension as the ski edge passes over. Depending
on the amount of inclination you can apply to your edge-set
skills, this will allow either grip or slip as needed for easy
directional or speed control. With regard to speed control,
especially for Beginners, this makes all inverted “V” shaped
“Snowplow” maneuvers really easy to form in order to stop or turn.

Authentic, Genuine, Cold Formed Very High Quality
Pure Winter Snow...

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

This is not a fancy action shot, but it is the
basis for the excellence that can be found
within this trail group. Individual challenge can
vary widely and there are natural hazards.
Explore responsibly.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
