----------- T360 Late Night Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 10:57 P.M. -------------

We were wrong on some of the conditions forecast today
because the wind was quite nearly “Howler” status and
that generated some significant challenges well outside
of human control. It was literally enough to push you
in places.

There were many very fine trail surfaces, however,
where wind-blast had a chance to focus it had
an erosive force and there were some resulting
icy/slick zones. These were mostly on steeper
pitches and you had to be very careful with speed
to safely navigate. The net effect was that even at
-7C, the feel underfoot was as if it was -15 C or
more and it had the look of that as well. These desert
sand waves of super-dry snow shown below typically
occur/more frequently occur, when it's really cold.

Even though the temp was indeed warmer, the
wind-chill offset that quickly so on a personal
level, if you had thought you could do with less
layers, you got a cool reminder that was not the
case right away.

As previously mentioned, there were a lot of great
surfaces, especially for Beginners and Intermediates.
Thank goodness for Nansen, reliable, consistent,
smooth, safe and forgiving, as only one of many
examples.

There were a number of zones with lateral washboard
and in some surprising places like P’tit Bonheur, which
is very rare, so Mountain Crews have a lot of work to
do tonight to restore order.

On the flip-side, there are some Sous Bois zones
of outstanding accumulation and quality. We’ll
get into that in the morning as it should be a
direct carry-over.

The sun was in/out/in/out and not much help in
the warmth department, just too much wind.

Attendance did reduce quite a bit in the afternoon
and after the noon hour, we never had more than
5 minutes of lift wait, most of the time, ski right on.

Summary:

All the raw materials are there, what it wants are
the refinements that we think Mountain Crews
are working on right this second.

A Mother Nature 2 Day Sale On Easy Temps
With Lots Of Fresh, Really Snowy Conditions!

Weather Notes:

We are in the middle of a wavy warm oscillation pattern of
the Polar Vortex influence that is very happily coincidental
to quite close to ideal atmospheric natural snowmaking
temps and a moisture-laden active precipitation system.

You should go skiing if you can...

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Fabulous “Run Away From Home” freshly groomed, fresh snowfall.

6cm’s of fresh overnight snowfall is an easy integration
for a single grooming pass, so we do expect some seriously
fine conditions across the entire range of the groomed inventory.

It’s been weeks and weeks since there was any warm influence
so roughly 97.342% of all the icy and/or slick bits are gone and
there are miles and miles of consistent, glitch-free, reliable,
pure winter, all snow, high performance trail surfaces.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Fabulous “Run Away From Home” fresh snowfall.

Better and better as we are right on the verge of the 300cm’s
total accumulation level which puts us nicely into what we
would call the maturity of the season.

With every snowflake the hazards are fewer and the coverages
more complete.

Due to the significant difference in the temps for this current
snowfall, the composition of the brand new snow is that of
a much warmer, fat, thick snowflake that may be prone to
tracking and rapid mogul building.

Generally:

There are good chances that today may be a classic
example of “The Sunday Syndrome”, where anxious
regional’s feel the urge to leave early in order to
get home to prepare for the work and school week.
In this case, it could be compounded by the perception
that the messy roads will be a further delay, thereby
motivating an even earlier departure.

For that reason, this afternoon could be a perfect
opportunity to let the rat race go home while you
stay and enjoy some potentially spectacular conditions
almost by yourself.
