100/102(*) Open Trails.

The End Of An Era.

After 54 Days Of Consecutive Sub-Zero C Days, We See A
Daily High Temp Above Zero C For The First Time, Today.

It’s Not A Record Number Of Sub-Zero C Days,
But It’s Over Double The Average...

PLUS... Within that time-frame, there has been over 3 Metres
of natural snowfall @ 309 cm’s!

Why This Is all Significant:

We call consecutive days of uninterrupted Sub-Zero C’s “Pure Winter”
because it typically indicates the very highest levels of an all snow
Alpine Skiing trail base of exceptional quality with very little in the
way of icy bits that are the consequence of either periodic heat or rain.

Secondly, another extraordinary phenomenon has been the amount
of cold formed snowfall in this time period at over 3 metres/10.1 feet.
That is exceptional.

Considering both the duration of very cold temp’s due to anomalies
in the Polar Vortex and the Jet Stream, and the fact that very cold
temps do not usually produce as much snow(Mother Natures own
best snowmaking temps are approx. -7C +/- 2C), this huge amount
of natural snowfall is abundance that would be way beyond what might
be normally expected for the temp ranges we’ve experienced.

Why This Is Important:

We could be seeing the development of a very snowy time period
moving forward and over the entire remainder of the season. This is
because in more ideal natural snowmaking temperature ranges, as
the Colorado and Texas Low’s move diagonally from the South-West
over/across the Great Lakes, they will pick up additional moisture
from the vast expanses of open water, and that will add to the volume
of natural snowfall production over Tremblant.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

Due to the initial -7C at first tracks and the expected
high temp not occurring until late in Open hours, our
forecast is that the snow conditions will easily remain
all-winter, all day. Mechanically speaking, what we have
here is what we call thermal momentum in the very cold
core mass of the Mountain that has been subjected to
-20’s C overnights for weeks on end. That cold is not
going anywhere for the foreseeable future and part of
what the immediate effect is, we have the “Laws of Physics”
in-so-far-as “Convection” is applied. In this case, because
of the opposite of “Heat Rises”, i.e., “Cold Sinks” the cold
sinks parts means that there is a continuous downward
wash of cold air flowing over the Alpine trail surfaces
from the stored frost reserve radiating outward from the
conical shape of the Mountains form.

In The Groomed:

For today specifically, it could be split into 2 parts
the first being absolutely fantastic groomed surfaces
that we’ve had for months, perpetuated by the stored
cold reserve in the Mountains mass, the second being
the atmospheric where it's way, way easier due to mild
air temps. Essentially, you’ll be experiencing a Mother
Nature 1 day sale on what could be really close to perfect,
the best of both worlds.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Everything from wonderful to thick as a brick.

Absolutely Experts experience and skills with a
side-order of muscle that may be necessary due
to the challenge where thick.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
