And With This Much Great Snow, People Are Flying Around All Over The Place....

Weather Notes:
There is an old saying about March weather... “In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb”,
so if you think a big bunch of new snowfall, still falling, plus a -25 C overnight
equals the meteorological equal of a winter “Lion”, you may have some probable
insight into the new month.
We actually think there’s more to the situation that could make predictions
less certain, or even the opposite where the other old saying about March
weather “In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion” could be true.
First of all, this 30 some-odd hour snowy cold snap was very close to the
end of February, so close that if it was a leap-year it might have been in
February, so when you put that perspective against the overall first week
of March that gets way, way warmer, and maybe even a bit wet, well, you
might be able to argue that the practical beginning of March will be more
Lamb-like.
In order to consider it “Lion-like”, we would have wanted to see the cold
winter weather pattern to be predominant over at least 5 to 7 days of the
beginning of March, not just 30/40 hours.

BonJour! Be Careful! Elevated Challenge Due To Heavy Thick Snowfall

If You Like Your Trails “Thick n’ Chunky”, Then Your Dreams Come True!
3.1.25.Nord.North.Marie.Claude.Asselin.Bas.Lower.With.Heavy.Thick.Moguls.d.jpg
Conditions Notes:
Generally:
Abundant, deep, thick, heavy snowfall favours Expert
skills and experience due to its interference with turning
efforts, especially where tracked and in the process of
forming moguls.
There may be substantial differences in the characteristics
of Sud/South slopes that were more directly exposed to
frontal winds, as opposed to Nord/North slopes where
drift-over back-filling, way deeper accumulations could
be far more apparent.
In The Groomed:
The “Groomed” may not seem so “Groomed” in
places where the heavy snowfall is still very much
active, and where the grooming was done before
the really significant accumulations began.
Beginners and less confident Intermediate’s will
need to default to Nansen or maybe P’tit Bonheur
to begin with in order to start safely, however
Sud/South slopes may have an “easy” advantage.
Work up slowly and very carefully. You’re going to
potentially need significant muscle to initiate control
moves in any thick or tracked zones, and you may
find those demands without notice so you need to
be constantly prepared
This is a vital time to consult with the Info.Ski Crews
and/or any Ski Patrol team members you meet out
on the trails in order to be steered in the right, safe
direction.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Fantastic Expert Fun! This is where you’ll see them that
think they are Experts, maybe not looking quite so Expert.
Deep, thick, fresh snowfall over irregular bumps and in
the trees definitely commands respect and frequently,
a lot of muscle applied with sophisticated, experienced
technique.
Of course, it is a magnificent learning opportunity for
aspiring Sous Bois skill builders, just slow down and
focus on tons of turns with a well centred, compact
form with pronounced forward hand position that will
give you the balanced “coil spring” suspension you need
to absorb the bumps and lumps without getting kicked
into the back seat over the tails of your skis.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
