It’s Really, Really KKkkkoool Outside...

At -24 C, is it possible that this will be the last very cold morning of the season?

No, there’s tomorrow too... but at least it’s sunny!

----------- 3.2.25 Supplementary Weather Data: ------------

We wonder about the stat’s indicated in the lower row of
graphics regarding the first three weeks of Feb., shown
there as near to average ranges. Maybe it does work out
mathematically, but for most of that period it seemed
a lot cooler.

Also... The beginning of March is shown as colder than average,
but we wonder if the super-cold of this 30 hour span would be
enough to skew the numbers for the whole week because
looking forward by a handful of days, it’s going to be a way,
way warmer looking trend.

Anyway, these are Official stat’s so we accept them as being valid
by the mathematical computations used by Weather Scientists to
produce them.

Lessons from yesterdays big snow...

Yesterday we called for the potential differences between Sud/South
and Nord/North conditions due to wind shaping and that proved to
be the reality. This pic. below shows the substantial difference where
Versant Soleil has new snow, but it is not the thickness in depths that
wind shaping over the Summit generated on Nord/North slopes where
even P’tit Bonheur exhibited comparatively thick tracking.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

Today is a candidate for a late start after a relaxing brunch,
then, hit the slopes when it’s a lot warmer and ski right through
to last run.

In The Groomed:

Extremely high quality where freshly groomed due
to the Mother Nature cryogenic treatment that makes
for outstanding control over a very dry snow crystal
structure. As discussed elsewhere, the Nord/North
may be prone to soft mogul building due to a thicker
mantle of new snow that still has a fair degree of loft.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

The biggest freshness benefit of the new snowfall that will
be felt right through to Monday will be within Nord/North
and Edge Sectors where heavy drifting dumped huge pockets
of deep snow into many of the lee-side topographical contour
pockets.

The cold temps should keep it all light in terms of the crystalline
structure, so if there is any heaviness in the Hors Piste it would
be simply because of the depths.

The mogul zones should have a very energy absorbing cushion
over everything, and depths especially between the bumps may
add a considerable degree of forgiveness for genuine Experts,
but may add a lot of extra challenge for aspiring mogul bashers.
For that reason we’d urge caution for those without lots of deep
snow experience, not only does it take a lot of refined muscle,
but for those without the conditioning, fatigue thresholds can
be critical safety elements. When extra effort is needed for
sustained time periods beyond normal demand, you may
“run out of fuel” without a lot of notice.
