NANSEN Haut/Upper, Scheduled To Open Today!

It might be hard to tell, but too much snowfall for photography
is an excellent reason for understanding just how good the opening
of Versant Sud/South Side Nansen should be today!

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Generally, very fine early season groomed conditions
with a high ratio of natural snow mixed with blown.
The end result has meant a wonderful, authentically
natural feel underfoot.

Many seasons exist in the opening phases with higher
amounts of blown snow, but not this season and that
shows in every descent where the primary component
is all natural and you can tell the difference.

From a functional utility standpoint, there is a fair degree
of friction in the snow that we think is a product of temps
with humidity that have been just below the freezing mark
recently and that, combined with a bit of thickness from
small but steady snowing, has meant there’s a bit of
restriction in the glide factor.

On steeper slopes, that’s great, control is automatically
easier, on shallow slopes though, a bit of skating action
to keep speed may be necessary.

For our friends on snowboards, you’ll want to pump the
board on run-outs if you don’t want to have to take a
foot out to cross plateau’s.

Sharp edges are essential for optimized safety and
performance. There have been some revolving icy
bits that are fairly small, but never-the-less, can
be encountered without advance notice and if you
have too much speed when approached, an unexpected
loss of traction can happen.

------------- Conditions Caveat: ---------------

It’s early season and there is a lot of mixed
skill level terrain sharing where excessive
speed is irresponsible. What we see are
“Bombers” who have no ability to safely
stop or change direction, blasting through
groups of Beginners. You need to scan,
scan, scan and then scan some more
as you tour around. Before you set off
from any stopping point, look behind
you to see who’s coming. Let all the
roving gangs go by and wait for gaps
in traffic. Weekend traffic could be busy
so be patient on the slopes and in the
lift lines.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
