------------- T360 Way Apres Mid-Night, Apres Ski Edit, At 1:17 A.M. -----------

Tremblant Was Spectacular Today.

One of the very best early season ski conditions days, ever.

On top of that(a), we were right on our conditions report
forecast for cryogenic exposure to improve speed and
glide, so Tremblant was FAST!

On top of that(b), a very rare atmospheric event today...

----------- Supplementary Weather Data/Forecasting Elements: --------------

Winter looks like it’s here early, and here to stay.
Normally, there could still be late fall warm blip’s,
but there’s no current evidence to support any
significant warmth in December at all, quite to
the contrary as shown below.

So, get used to the “Bundle Up” concept, but
also look forward to extraordinarily fine skiing.
Snow conditions that don’t have any thaw events
are ideal for the very highest levels of quality
and consistency.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

It was excellent yesterday and it should be more excellent today
for 2 main reasons, one of which is theoretical before field work
proof is possible.

The first reason is the increase in smooth, compacted top layers
with a more universally consistent surface density because of
a second night-shift of grooming that compresses more of the
loft out of the thickness of the latest 20 cm’s of new snowfall.

Typically this means an overall greater degree of daily sustained
firmness, smoothness and high traction action that is mogul
resistant as the open hours pass.

The second, and a theoretical element is that the recent fresh
snow has had a bit of friction in its glide characteristics, but with
an overnight low of -13C at Sud/South Base levels, somewhere
around or down to -17 C at elevations, there is significant potential
for a Mother Nature “Freeze-Dry” crystallization in the exposed
layers that can cook out the dampness and thereby dial up both
the glide and speed.

Maybe...

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Fantastic to have even any of these zones open so early,
which speaks volumes about the abundance of natural
snow for this date, however, there are also about one
million wild cards of challenge and hazard risk due to
the very shallow depths that conceal wood, rock, bare
ground and irregular snow deposits caused by wind
shaping and traffic patterns.

Experts Only Please...

And... if you want to minimize risks of base damage,
slow speeds in the Sous Bois are essential because
some hazards are not obviously visible from above
so you need to be able to pivot, jump, hop, twist, turn,
stop or otherwise make instant course corrections in
order to avoid obstacles in your path that may not be
apparent until you are virtually on top of them.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
