Weather Notes:

Best Of Both Worlds...

Mild compared to last couple of days, so while
most of Eastern North America is whining about
freezing their butt’s off, we’re just going to be
enjoying a fantastically easy day of skiing in
relative warmth, but with all the benefits of
fully embedded left-over cold in the trail
surface snow.

--------------- 2:53 P.M. Insert Update: --------------------

As you can see, photography was a bit on the
impractical side with very grey, often foggy
and always flat, low contrast ambient daylight.

Below: There was reasonable speed on pitches,
however the snow itself had a fair degree of
friction so control was excellent, but glide
was restricted and either skate or push was
necessary to traverse plateaus.

Below: Thickness due to heavy snowfall
is a “Happy Problem” and as a challenge
for Beginners and Intermediates, it is also
a learning opportunity as well as a genuine
workout as it definitely needs some muscle
to navigate where the depths have built up.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

There are a few applicable possibilities for today
in the attendance category due to the F.I.S. World
Cup Women’s G.S. event weekend. If could be
really busy, especially around the Sud/South Resort
Base. It could also be really busy out on the slopes
due to it being a weekend, however, what can also
happen is that in the perception that it will be really
busy for the event, some people decide to do Christmas
shopping instead of what they think might be a crowded
day and it might end up being a not crowded day.

We won’t know until later on, but if it is really busy,
patience will be needed both on the trails and in
the lift lines as there could be a lot of mixed skill
sharing and even though there is more open terrain,
the population will be concentrated onto primarily
Nord/North sectors due to the Race Course restrictions
on Sud/South Sectors.

On another generalized note, there is a really nice layer
of freshly fallen natural snow so the whole Mountain has
gotten a little refresher. At this point, it is still lightly
snowing.

In The Groomed:

The base is excellent for this time of year. If there
is a lot of immediate new snow since last nights
grooming it could end up being a bit on the tracked
up side with lingering soft ridges and a tendency to
form moguls but the scale of those evolutions will
be completely dependant on the traffic, which at
this stage we can’t accurately anticipate.

You’ll need to ready for anything past the immaculate
first tracks.

We think there should be good speed and glide,
although if there’s much buildup, the glide part
might be reduced where ever thickness is evident.

Scan, scan, then scan some more as mixed skill
sharing is big factor over early season weekends
and situational awareness is critical. Some of the
“Hot Rodders” travel in packs, if you see them
coming, stop, let them go, then proceed.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Fantastic early season conditions with the proviso that
it is exactly that... early season, so the depth of coverage
is shallow and there are absolutely challenges and hazards
that warrant extra special care with conservative speeds.
Stopping and instant directional change capabilities are
essential for both personal and equipment safety when
immovable objects may be lurking under thin snow cover.
Go slow, go safe.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
