28(*) Open Trails At #Tremblant.

The Skiing Is Great, But...

It’s Really Cold Outside...

One Could Maybe Even Say...

The Skiing Is Great Because It’s Really Cold Outside...

PLUS...

This Weekend You Get To See The World’s Best Technical Skiers...

The F.I.S. World Cup Women’s G.S. Event Weekend.

Weather Notes:

What can we say... It is what it is and all we can do
is dress for it, take lots of warming breaks and then
get back out to enjoy the exceeding fine performance
that cryogenic, super-cool snow provides.

One really significant advantage for today is the low
wind velocity forecast for this afternoon. It is a fact
that very cold temps can be far better tolerated when
there’s little or no wind. Of course when you’re moving
at descent speeds there is proportional head wind, but
when taking a safe trail-side break, body heat from your
exertion will generate warmth inside your garment envelop
and in the absence of wind, that will be retained and felt
almost instantly.

Notes On Vision And Directions:

It is a common early season situation at almost every
ski area to experience vision issues within the environment
of snowmaking that can generate localized cloud-fog
and/or airborne snow particles and we have certainly
seen the usual effects of that over these initial days.

The answer to safe descents in any reduced vision
conditions is of course, slow speeds.

The answer to navigational directions when setting
out on any descent is a consult with the unique Inf.
Ski Crews at their Summit Station by the Gondola
offload zone.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

Yesterday we wrote about the potential for relatively
light public attendance that can happen on special
event weekends and indeed, that was the case.
We think it may be because local and regional
Tremblant fans seem to think things might be
too crowded, so they elect to defer attendance
to another day to avoid what they think is going
to be heavy Mountain traffic, or congested parking
access?

The Mountain traffic was really light for a Saturday,
there were very few out skiing, and on the Nord/North
base it was basically ski-on all day long. Parking was
a bit of a different story where it was congested on the
Sud/South, but for anyone willing to drive about 8 minutes,
the parking at the Nord/North base was quite light and
it was easy to get close to the chalet.

We expect virtually all of that to be a repeat for today.

In The Groomed:

There should be a very noticeable difference in the
ski conditions today because the grooming night-shift
should have compressed a lot of the loft out of the
new snow that fell throughout the day yesterday.

That new snowfall was prone to thickness and tracking
and it also had a fair degree of friction in it that required
skating or pushing to keep speed on runouts. What we’re
hoping for is that the overnight cold could cook out some
of that resistance and there could be a restoration of glide.
What we know will happen is that the tracking and thickness
will be vastly reduced where freshly groomed, so trails like
Nord/North P’tit Bonheur that got lumpy and chunky by
mid-day should see far greater all-day smoothness.

Fortunately, and a blessing for Beginners, Sud/South Nansen
remained seamlessly smooth all day and that should be a
repeat today.

Newly Opening Terrain Developments:

This below is a big one, it’s last run yesterday at the
Nord/North base and we’re looking up to Fuddle-Duddle
Bas/Lower where crews are busy prep’ing the trail for the
opening shown for this morning.

Getting the Expo Quad sector going is a huge asset for
everyone, not only is it one of the most popular sectors
of the whole Mountain, but once again, such a huge
square area addition automatically spreads out the traffic
loads thereby enhancing daily quality retention everywhere.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
